Hey guys,

does anyone else also have the problem that a change in language settings doesn't affect the whole game?

I changed all settings to english but the epilepsy warning screens and also some ingame sounds (the whispering in the first levels of the Oldest House) are still in german. Does anyone of you know how to change this? Is there an english version of the install files somewhere?

Thank you for your comments and your help in advance.

Best regards
Chris

Well that's an interesting bug. Did you buy it from the Germany region?

Somtimes games (as well as applications honestly) are shipped with the region in mind where they are supposed to be sold in and not tested that throughly when switched to another language.

I have not had that issue, but I bought it in an English language region.
Yeah, I have the same issue and it seems to be a known problem.

I solved the issue (in Windows 7) by changing the "Format" under "Regional and Language Options" to English.

Yeah, similar to some other games certain language settings seem to be set based on the system locale rather than the options in the config menu - mainly the language of the Hiss, but also the epilepsy splash screen at the start.

To change it you can either change the locale setting of your OS or mess with the files in the data_packfiles folder.

If you want to have it in English rather than German simply remove/move the files with the "-de" suffix from that folder. Then the game automatically defaults to English for the Hiss sound.

Just keep in mind that this will also break any German display texts. So you should probably change the display language to English before removing/moving those files - otherwise it would be a bit harder to navigate the menus.

Thanks to you both for your help. Worked perfectly fine for me.

It is interesting that publishers offer options to change the language ingame on the one hand and on the other hand link some sound and menu aspects to the Windows 10 language settings. I can not see the sense in this technical decision.

Hope somebody reported to DEVs. It can not be a solution to change Windows Settings (therefore Audio/Language settings are exist in game!). If the settings have no affect on the whole game, it is def. bug that should be fixed...
I've digged a little deeper and I've found that the game just reads the content of the registry key
"HKCU\Control Panel\International\LocaleName". So instead of changing the regional settings everytime, one can simpy change this reg key before starting the game. Just start the game via batch like this:
reg add "HKCU\Control Panel\International" /f /v "LocaleName" /t REG_SZ /d "en-US"
start /b Control_DX11.exe
timeout /t 10
reg add "HKCU\Control Panel\International" /f /v "LocaleName" /t REG_SZ /d "de-DE"
This changes the locale to english, launches the game, give it enough time (10s) to read the setting before changing the key back to original.

Perhaps this could be of use:

I fixed it by deleting the files with my language affix in Control\data_packfiles. This defaulted the whisper back to English.
