I'm having exactly the same problem. When I tab out of the game and back in, the screen is updated, but it still doesn't react. Seems as if the screen is simply not redrawn at all.

I've tried every possible combination of Windows compatibility options to no avail.

Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, Intel HD Graphics card (notebook)

Same problem. Alt-tab out and back in again; the game has advanced to the next screen. I looked for the DOSbox config.ini, but I didn't find one. Oh yea windows 7 64. One more thing I can play Constructor on the same computer.

I have the same problem as you guys, does anyone have a fix for this??

I don't know if it's the same thing for you guys, but I had to switch my color settings to 16bit and minimize the game using Alt+Enter so that I could actually see the game. I was previously having the same thing happen to me with the game starting, but a completely black screen, but doing this fixed it for me.

When running it, I hear all intro's... but no video...

I tried compatibility option, clicking on every single option there, but no one worked...

Update 1: Tech Support from GOG told me the following but it didn't work :(

Please try these general troubleshooting steps:

1) Make sure that your user account has Administrator privileges, right-click game's shortcut and select "Run as Administrator".

2) Right click the game's shortcut, go to Properties -> Compatibility and try different compatibility modes.

3) Install June 2010 DirectX runtime package. You can find the ZIP file containing its installation files here:

You will have to extract the files into some folder, then open that folder and launch the DXSETUP.exe file in order to proceed with the installation.

4) Make sure that User Account Control is disabled in your operating system. To do this, go to Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Accounts -> Change User Account Control settings. Move the slider to the lowest position ("Never notify") and click OK. Now try launching the game again.

If none of the above helps, please send me your computer's dxdiag report, so I could look into this problem in more detail.

To launch the dxdiag application on Windows XP, click Start -> Run... -> type in "dxdiag.exe" -> OK.
To launch the dxdiag application on Windows Vista or 7, click the Start button, type in "dxdiag.exe" in the text field at the bottom and press Enter.
In the newly opened dxdiag window, click "Save All Information..." and choose a location in which you want to save the file (your desktop, for instance). Once you have created the file, please attach it to a reply to this e-mail.

I had same problems, late December and got in touch with support. After over 10 emails, no solution, no apologies or promise of fixing it... A shame... I really don't know if I will ever buy something here again.

I've tried what I put before, plus tried running the game under WinXP Mode, but nothing worked... I'll continue looking to see if I can resolve it.

To be fair, GOG has not listed MOB RULE as being compatible with Windows 7.

I had the same problems but finally I can play the game now (win 7 64 bits).

What I did:

- I disabled CrossfireX (or SLI) !IMPORTANT! I checked and with CrossfireX Enabled the game fails to show any image.
- I Put my screen resolution as low as I can (800x600 with 24'' Paronamic screen Hell yeah! :P). !IMPORTANT! Game image fails too...

And then the game works. First I tried with all the compatibilities checks checked, but I tried again and they are not needed.

Hi all just want you guys know that if you gave notebook with "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD" you can play it. If you have more graphic cards just force to use that integrated1. Win7 64bit.

I just got another fix, from gog support. If you have multiple GPUs on your PC, go to screen resolution settings and set multiple displays to "extend these displays". It worked for me, although I usually use just one display, to be able to play Mob Rule, I must set the other one too. If you are unsure how to set this, just look at attached picture (don't care its about RA2, the problem is the same).

To anyone else who may wish to play Mob Rule on Windows 7 - this solution works. The loading screens at the beginning and the intro video all work perfectly. I'm going to give the game a run right now, but going from not even seeing the screen to fluidity has me hopeful!

The simplest fix I found was just to:
1) Right click the exe/shortcut
2) scroll over "Run with graphics processor"
3) Click integrated.

I know someone pointed this out earlier, but I just wanted to lay it out in detail. This worked despite being on windows 7 and at much higher resolution (1600x900)


EDIT: This made it start, but the screen would not react to commands or refresh . . . so maaaaybe not a solution for everyone.

I had the same problem. The problem was my direct draw acceleration for 32 bit was disabled. I had to make a registry edit to fix this problem. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\DirectDraw and look for "EmulationOnly" Change THAT value to "0". Remember that editing registry's should only be done if you know what your doing. You could screw up your computer if you do this incorrectly.
