I just started playing Commandos Ammo Pack and can´t even get past the first Level!

Is Commandos ridiculously difficult or am I just such a noob?
Commandos is indeed ridiculously difficult - especially 'Beyond the Call of Duty'.
Here are my suggestion:
- Don't touch BtCoD before you haven't finished 'Behind Enemy Lines'
- Play all of the Tutorial missions
- Use the hotkeys instead of clicking on the items in the inventory
- Quicksave a lot (Ctrl + S, Ctrl + L)
- Don't use your firearm & don't get hurt
- If you finish the first level, play it again (maybe even a third time)
Yeah, it's tough. Puzzle elements, timing, and the occasional not-so-clear objective make it a difficult game. Rewarding, though, once you get it right.

Note that this absolutely is NOT a run-and-gun game, so if you're playing it that way you'll likely never complete any missions. I remember spending at least a few hours each on most of the missions.

There are at least a few good threads in this forum that give some general tips. You'll later encounter a couple missions where you'll want some specific advice (mini-spoiler: submarine mission), and I think those are also covered in threads.
I don't mean to be an asshole here but apart from the BEL mission "End of the Butcher" there is nothing with these games that can't be done with a little creativity and planning. Not counting C3, these games have no time limits. Take the time to look around, see what your enemies are doing, try different things. There are a million little tricks here and there which you will pick up and as I love talking about this game I'm more that willing to help anyone with anything.

Give me a holler if you want some tips, I'm always here and I worship these games. Well, the 1st two anyway. :D
Thanks for the good advice!

I really like the idea of the game so I hope I will get the hang of it.

You make good points, especially the hot keys. Sometimes nothing happens after I click the icons like the knife and this can be crucial at times if the timing needs to be strict.

But I would differ in regards to the usage of guns, sometimes it is OK to use them, for example the sub machine gun of the driver (very good for eliminating 3 man patrols). But it needs to be done far away from the guard houses, so you do not trigger the alarm.

When available use the Marine and his harpoon for 3 man patrols. Distract them with the spy or decoy and make sure you hit the leader first. It doesn't work 100% of the time but try it out and I think you will find it will get you out of some nasty jams.

It is a difficult game, but not overwhelmingly difficult.

Main rule: Avoid shooting as much as you can (unless you have a tank, but that only happens once or twice)
Main rule: Use all of your available commandos. Each one has different things you can use.
Rule: If you find it difficult to get to a specific part of a map, use a different tactic. That's why your men have different skills.

And practice. I used to save and load a lot during missions until I found a good way to get to my target unnoticed.

What game are you playing!? XD

Just off the top of my head you get a tank in the "Blow up the mansion mission" and in the "Rescue the pilot" mission. You also get 8 tracks throughout the game but those things can eventually been blown up if you aren't careful.
I would say you are such a noob :) no ofense :P

I assume you know this game is about stealth rather than going rambo and shoot them up. You need to study the enemies moves, what they can see, how do they move, etc, in order to chose who to kill next without being detected. It requires patience and some brain, but most of all patience. But Commandos BEL is not ridiculously difficult at least in the first missions... Beyond the call of duty on the other hand.... gezz. they went waaaay to far with that one

that's clearly a bug and using it is the same as cheating for me :P

These games are so dificult to get into, but once you do you just can't help but love them. I fondly remember how many times I reloaded during the second "first" game, beyond the call of duty. That train mision...uuurgh, but in the end I was like yessss damnit haha. Takes a lot of patience to spy all the soldiers walking paths so you can set up ambushes.
ouch, ddn't check the date, and can't find how to delete comments xp

Don't worry! You can still talk about the game here. Commandos is a real classic and at least I'm still willing to follow the discussion. :)
And I'll bump my comment about helping anyone out, if I can. I haven't gotten around to my annual play through yet and I'm a bit rusty.
