Just started playing CM and whilst im loving the game i wish the actual missions were better laid out rather than all just lumped together in one menu.
Are there any experienced CM players out there who have a particular mission or operation they think stands above the rest or is a good starting point for new players.
There are a whole load of mods too, i tried a couple of the terrain ones and changed my Sherman Mk IV's but if anyone has favourite i would love to know.
Thanks.

You can always change the difficulty (number of troops, possibility of fanatical troops and so on) settings for a mission or edit (a copy of course) the mission files to add/change whatever you'd like to. ;]
Where the heck are the CM mod sites? There's nothing on the web I can find!

Battlefront killed them, basically. All mods are now hosted on the BF site (if you have a forum account, you can access the mod directory). When they set that up, they basically sent a cease and desist out to existing mod sites.

That's a bit of a bummer - controlling modders and mods like that. Probably means there aren't that many or as wide a variety, but i'll have a look - thanks for the info!
Well, I have searched the web and Combat Mission BO is being killed by Batllefront.com and the third party websites. The battlefront mod listing is a joke, CMMOD's website is closing, found another site through a forum and went to it, only to not be able to register. Message said to contact administrator, but website had no contact info anywhere on the site! I was going to post a reply in the original forum to tell the poster his website wasn't working, only to realise I would have to register at that site too!
At that point I gave up. There may be CMBO mods out there, but the original publishers, and the website owners have put a minefield and barbed wire around them!

Most of the good graphics mods are actually available in your CMBO install.
Unfortunately, I don't know how many of the custom scenarios are available from the Battlefront database.
Okay, for scenarios and the like, The Scenario Depot II is your best bet : http://www.the-scenario-depot.com/scenario_finder.html?game=CMBO
For mods, here's a site I hadn't previously ever heard of : http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/authors?game_type=1
Hilariously, after their move to a new server after a massive hack attack a month or so ago, the Battlefront Repository is dead, and they now say it'll come back sometime, maybe. This after insisting that they would take great care to keep stuff available through it.

Thanks very much for the info and links. Annoying when you find the name of a scenario or Operation (Like Any Port in A Storm) and then see there is no website to download it from any more. The same couple dozen scenario's are duplicated at about three bare-bone sites. Shame for such a great game that it has been forgotten!
Well, it was never anywhere near as popular as the other Combat Mission games for mods, either. The second one in the series, Barbarossa to Berlin, might be the strategy game with the most custom content in existence.
I just re-bought the game off the sale. I remember when I installed the game years ago with an enormous amount of mods and it was fantastic.

Battlefront really, really suck for doing this. I don't understand the reasoning either. Modding has never done anything but promote and encourage popularity of a game.

I do remember that even before, none of the mods could alter the unit statistics and gameplay rules. I think they wanted to keep their own brand of realism.
I just repurchased it from the sale as well.

Luckily I have most of the old texture mods for it including the CMODS mods and installer on CD. Should put them on a hard drive before the disks die.

I think Battlefront really want the older series to die off.

Cheers MarkL
Missed CMBO the first time around years ago--introduced to it and bought it during the sale and love it---thank you GOG!

After doing a little research on scenarios it seems that "Any Port After a Storm" and "No Rest for the Weary" by Patrick Ware are two of the most highly regarded user-made operations---and unfortunately the files for them are all at the other end of dead links. No sign of them at the Scenario Depot. Anyone know where we can find these files?
Just answered my own question: There is a set of scenarios called 'Denhost CMBO Scenarios Collection" on the Battlefront site that contains those two and many many more. The file is 31.7mb zipped---considering that the typical scenario is only a couple dozen kb should give you an idea of how many different scenarios are included. The only drawback is you've got to register at the Battlefront site.
