Yeah, Loom, System Shock 2 and Wasteland appear in the screenshots. Wasteland is probably the only one of these that there is a chance it would appear on GOG in the near future. The System Shock rights are out of both Irrational/Looking Glass' and EA's hands, and LucasArts are too busy making Star Wars Kinect games to care about their history of amazing games.
In the third from the last screenshot, there is also a town named Diablo. Don't get your hopes up about that one either. :) I believe the town names are just a Gog screenshot artist's way of paying homage to some of his\her favorite games of the past. Not nessesarily any hidden clues for upcoming games.

Colonization is a game that has been on every computer I have owned since its release--DOS, Windows 95, Windows 98, XP, Vista, and now Windows 7. The DOS version that GOG is selling is the original and, I think, superior to the Windows 95 version as well as Civilization IV: Colonization. Next to Master of Magic, it is my favorite PC game of all time.
Anybody tried the Civ IV Colonization addon? How does it compare to the great classic? Is it worth is?

Is it really an add-on? I would call it a remarke, because as far as I remember (and I remember well since I reinstalled it a couple of weeks ago) you don't need the original Civ IV to play Civ IV's Colonization. In fact it's just Colonization redone with Civ IV's engine.

Now for the differences. Let me be clear here: my opinion might not be totally impartial, since I'm a great fan of the original game. Let's just say I think that if you were a fan of the original one, the original one will always be better.

If not, just know that Civ IV's Colonization is all original Colonization is, plus fancy graphics, streamlined UI and very welcome additions, like for example marking the training the natives can provide your troops settlement by settlement (that village can train you in Expert Farmer, that one in Seasoned Scouts, etc.), a thing the original didn't (so you had to remember everything).

But... for me it's just not the same. Freecol is also excellent... but not the same.

I have spent so many hours on the original game (and will spend again so many thanks to GOG!) that any remake of it, good or bad, will always be at least slightly inferior. I understant it's more a matter of nostalgia than anything else. ^_^

But on a more objective note, the original Colonization is still great even by today's standards, it's not just nostalgia speaking (like it is when I say I like Heros of Might and Magic 1)

It is very nice, especially if you can get it from sale (cca 200 CZK, the last time i check). And you can run it without original Civ 4.

+interface
+"colonizopedia"

-AI
-original is more touching. I was never able to dig into so much -one more turn and i will go to bed- except first two games, never happened to me in Civ4:Colonization.
The crazy part is that I can still play my old Win95 CD version on my Win7 x64. It's one of the few games that installs without a hitch and plays flawlessly.

Still, one of the best games to release. I'll be picking it up as it goes on sale sometime (my CD version is pretty scratched-up, but still works). Just a preparation for when my CD finally kicks the bucket.

Also noticed they had a bit of fun with the gold cheat :p

*EDIT*
DAMN! It seems my CD is finally beyond usability... I can't stop weeping...

it`s a remake with some additions.

Fantastic news, GOG!! Pure class!
The remake is nice if you see it as a game of it's own. But as remake it is terrible. This is because of the natives and the combat system.

In the remake the natives act as spineless addition without no goal. They are not threat whatsoever. To none of your units. They even don't attack your unguarded treasure units. And you can destroy their cities without repercussion if you expand your cultural borders. You can do that until they are extinct.

In the original game they raid your treasure units and they will not disappear because of your expansion. On the contrary. The more you expand the more hostile they become towards you because you take their land.

And there is not a single mod for the remake which takes care of that problem.

The remake has more problems as well. It is way to easy to conquer enemy cities and farm the workers from it. Conquering cities was much harder in the original game. This is because the combat system is much different.

If you want a challenge than you have to play the original one but if you want to have a nice casual gaming experience than the remake is good as it is.

Actually it is a stand-alone expansion, a "re-imagining" of the original Colonization. It made a couple of improvements on the original (galleons can carry more than one treasure and ships can carry wagons).

But I feel that some of the changes it made were for the worse--the mechanics of immigration as well as educating/training colonists was changed and "on-the-job training" was removed. The Fountain of Youth and the Custom House were done away with. The cost of horses was increased dramatically in the first patch, so unless you have a Seasoned Scout waiting on the immigrant dock when the game starts, you may as well start over. The changes made for a game that was a lot less fun than the original was.

Despite the negatives, however, I play Civ4 Colonization from time to time.

What I meant was that the CD had enough scratches and the like to finally call it quits. It's an old CD and was finally it's time to go.

As such, I bought it on here (even though I could of pirated it easily) because it's just such an awesome game and GoG deserves some money for bringing back my crack.

God rest the souls of all the enemies I've already destroyed in this game. THE BLOODBATH ENSUES!!!

Because it is a 16-bit application that won't run on 64-bit OS.
