Right off the top, let me say I don't think this is necessarily a Close Combat issue - I think it's related to my particular hardware setup, but I'm hoping someone on here may have some advice.

So, I am running Win 10 on a tablet that has a bit of an unusual native resolution - 1280 x 800 - and this causes display problems across multiple games (including CC2/CC3). I've tried all the tricks I have in my tool belt, including setting my resolution to 1024 x 768 (which gives me black bars of course on either side of the screen), but no matter what I do, when the game launches, it only fills the leftmost 2/3's of the screen.

What I can see of the game looks scaled perfectly, it just suddenly cuts off and in the rightmost 1/3 of the screen I can see the Win 10 desktop. Even more odd, within that rightmost 1/3 of the screen, the game still responds to my input if I click around and happen to hit something.

Anyone have some advice on what might cause this an a potential fix?

Thanks!

GenestealerGER: i also have this problem... also using a tablet
me too... following games seem to run fine except for right 1/3 of screen. it occurs to me that that is also about where the pop in taskbar occurs...
Same

The 1/3 on the right is the GoG web page for launching the game.

I've already tried:

CC2 shortcut to Win 8 compatibility
CC2 shortcut to Maximized window
Changing my tablet desktop resolution to smallest option 1024 x 768

My hardware is a tablet running Win 10 in landscape (wider than tall) configuration
I still have the 2/3 issue after trying the regedit possibility found in a post in another thread by Splatch

(i dont see a way to get the url for the threads so cant post a link, instead im reposting the other users message)

528646: Just purchased Close Combat 2

Is there a resolution fix that will work with the GOG version, as I couldnt find the relevant file in regedit using the old fix instructions.

Any ideas :)

Melvinpw72: For me the right folder in the registry was this :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Close Combat\2.00

To find it I searched for "close combat" in the registry, and I have hit F3 until I found the correct registry path (F3 search for the next value you're searching in the registry).

I modified the values in "ScreenX" (replaced 1024 by 1600) and in "ScreenY" (replaced 768 by 900) and it works, I can now play in 1600x900 :)

Hope this helps !

Edit : and if some people needs some help, there are visual instructions for the CD version here :)

I opened a support ticket referencing this thread. Suggest the others due to as more of the same is more likely to draw useful attention

My ticket # is #297926
I tested the newer game Cross of Iron and same issue. Grabbed a print screen and attaching.

On the right side you see the cut off showing in this case a portion of the GoG game/sync page

Attached picture here is of the CC 2 not filling the screen. Efforts made this attempt:

Compatibility set to Win 98

Desktop reslution set to 800 x 600 (smallest I can go)

Same result with right 1/3 not showing the CC game. This is both for CC 2 A Bridge to Far and Cross of Iron.

One of their staff, Cypers, got back to me and the instructions got me past the tablet partial screen issue:

Nothing changed until I got the ddraw.dll which wasnt even in my game directory

Wanted to post Cypers post but Im not allowed on this forum to post links (which I understand for spam/XXX reasons)
Note: When I did start a campaign it seemed stuck but it seems I have to manually alt-tab to the name-your-campaign box. After that it started up.

I suspect a similiar alt-tab would have been needed for custom settings.

With which game do you get this behaviour?

Hi can you post the solution please ?
So I too was suffering from this problem, then all I did was go to 'more' then 'manage installation' then 'show folder' and there is an application titled 'cc3 - windowed'. Thats all it took for me, suprisingly simple!

i have the same problem with my Netbook.

But i found out one thing... In the setup of one game i can change graphic renderer from DirectX to OpenGL.
With OpenGL the game scales perfectly.

i checked with the directx webinstaller if there is more to install. there was but the problem stayed...

Guys, the aforementioned registry hack works perfectly for CC2 - albeit, after a small alteration.
As you're probably not running the game at elevated privilages (a.k.a. as an administrator), it accesses a different registry key. The right place to look on x64 Windows is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Close Combat\2.00
When in there, just place whatever you feel suitable as the contents of ScreenX and ScreenY.
Works perfectly for me on Windows 10 x64 (even with DPI scaling, which is a known source of trouble for retro games, turned on). It would work in its original form too - however you'd have to keep on launching the game at elevated privileges.
