Thinking about buying this as it's on sale but had a question.

A review mentioned that the original version had director's commentary and quick saves added as bonus content.

I'm not too bothered about the commentary but does quick save definitely not exist in this version?
Haven't played it in months, but back when I did play the gog-version: Yes, there is no Quick-Save in Escape from Butcher Bay here!
And you cannot make Escape from Butcher Bay look like back in 2004. It's overglossy and actually very bright and different compared to the original.

very bright? Which version were you playing exactly? My copy was pretty dark.

Not bright per se, but like a comparison between Doom 3 and Doom 3 BFG Edition. There wasn't that hardcore pitch black element in there anymore. But that's less my problem with the remake. I'm still annoyed there's no quick save. Far Cry had at least a fan-patch, but here? Unfortunately no.
I'm surprised no one posted this here. I played this game before it was released on GoG, and was looking for a quicksave solution.

Someone at Gamefaqs forum posted a quicksave/load command line mod found by a guy in the Atari forums.

I purchased the game in July 2012, and I'm only trying it now (I know, I took my time), so thank you very much for the tip ! I would have stopped really quickly with only checkpoints !
How exactly do you type it in?
I'm trying but it says "not recognized"?
Do you type the whole thing with the ()?
Thanks
Yeah, I just came back to this board after a long time. Yes you have to type every single character as displayed.
I'm having a bit of trouble getting Quick Save up and running on mine. I'm writing it exactly as it's written but I'm getting a "function is void" type error, did they release a patch to make sure you couldn't enable it at all or is my copy just being finicky for no reason?
I can't open the console, maybe because the tilde character (~) is in another place in the spanish keyboard layout (AltGr + 4). ¿Did anyone have the same problem?
Open the console: CTRL + ALT + ~ (tilde)
Bind the key of your choice to the quick save:

bind f5 savegame('quick')

Note: This won't be saved after you quit the game, but the console does keep a command history. The next time you launch the game, open the console, hit up-arrow to repeat the last command, and rebind the key.

Lots of other console commands available...type 'help' to see the list. PgUp/PgDown to see the whole thing.
