Why Butcher bay is exactly the same...
The differences between the original and the version here are very minor. There were some animation and AI issues that were fixed. For example there were some enemies that appeared in groups but only attacked you one at a time. There was also a change made to the pit level, before you could open the door to Pope Joes area you had to find the valve handle. In the new version that handle is already in place, which saves you a few minutes of needless fetching. The big thing that I wish GOG would make available if the developer commentary. In the original version of Butcher Bay you would unlock the commentary option after you finished the game. This would put floating icons throughout the game that, when activated you hear the commentary. Some of the tracks go on for over 10 minutes, but they automatically pause if you walk too far away. If you have played with the commentary in Valve games like Half-Life 2 or Portal it is pretty much the same, except that Butcher Bay did it years before. The commentary was removed from the game when it was re-released with Dark Athena and was made into DLC exclusive to those who bought the game from select retailers. Atari later offered it as part of a patch on their website and if you look around you can still find it. Since the commentary was intended to go with the original version some of it no longer applies, but it is still well worth getting if you are a fan of this game.
I don't know if the commentary in Butcher Bay was the same as the one in the Dark Athena DLC, but that is still available for free and was linked in this forum more than once, i.e. here
I don't know why GOG does not add the pre-order content, possibly rights problems or something like that.

Well, the original game was made in some red-orange-rusty color sceheme instead od blue-grey. And it had another menu and HUD details - just remember a 3D cube while loading or pop-up tags to world objects (which are replaced by ordinary text strings in the bottom of screen). Call me grumbler but some things of Riddick's game were better in original version, and I'd like to have such version.

So you want it for very minor details? You can easily find a copy on amazon but good luck getting it to run.
Out of curiosity was the GOG including classic versions of Broken Sword 1 & 2 with the director's cuts versions a bad idea? Were the changes minor or massive?

I know at least with the first Broken Sword, it added a prologue, but overall it seemed to me that main portion of the game played essentially the same as the original. Were puzzles cut, were cutscenes removed?

All I know is most of the Broken Sword fans were quite happy that gog included both versions.

Of course LSL6 VGA vs. SVGA, people were definitely glad when GOG reincorporated the SVGA version. Although both versions are pretty much the same as far as puzzles.

Thats a good question, the directors cut added some good dialogue scenes but I know a few people who did nothing but complain about it.

That was intentional. On the commentary track one of Starbreeze devs said it was called "gentleman fight".
I actually liked that. But of course it was removed in Dark Athena, because this game pack is shit. The graphics looks like someone threw water on everything. Many tiny but yet cool things are gone. Dark Athena bit was boring and felt like som half-assed mod an eight year old kid made during his summer vacation.

Always good to see people who understand game design :-P
I was angry :p
They should have the original here solely for the fact that I'm sure there's a fair few of us with antiquated PCs that can't even run this version.
