After exiting the game, Carma2_HW.exe process won't close. Are there any way to fix it?

I'm having the same problem. Sometimes I might exit out to the desktop with the game still running but there is no way to get back to the game or kill the process. I have to reset the computer (a Windows 7 PC) because everything else is locked up. I can move the mouse around and music is still playing from iTunes but there is no way to end the game and regain control. The game window is not visible by the way so there is no access to menus in the game.

Same problem here on Windows 8.1, after quitting Carmageddon 2 there is still a little black window open in the upper left corner. I always have to open the Task Manager to kill the process, which works without problems.

Still annoying, though =/
Well, I don't have the GOG version of Carmageddon 2, so I'm using the v2 superpatch to get it running on my Vista machine. When I exit I get the carma2_hw.exe has stopped working window, the rest of the screen is black. However, you can use the mouse to cloes it. What I found I had to do is when that error message appears, press Alt-Tab to switch windows and then the mouse comes back and I can press the close button on the error message. Then I'm back to the desktop and all is fine again.

Could this be a similar issue, if not the same, just that different versions of Windows crash in different ways?
I have created a program that basically is a batch command converted to a EXE with admin rights to kill the process. It makes it easier, but I'd like to find out why this happens.
Just got the GOG version of Carmageddon 2 in the sale and when I exit, although it appears that Carma2_HW.exe won't close, and my desktop seems frozen with no mouse, if I just leave it a moment the exe just closes itself and my mouse comes back. I had tried to use the Task Manager but once it opened the exe had killed itself off.

So, for me, not a problem, just takes a few moments for it to kill itself off. Did GOG fix it or is it really just about waiting those few moments more?

Same for me but not a problem, I can wait. Heck, I got even better framerate than Carma1 on my Intel GMA! Sometimes it exits immediately, other time is waiting a bit. Probably has something related to CPU/RAM/multi-core. It can have lag spikes if you run any other app in background so best if Carma2 has priority, 1 core and no parallel processes like web browsers, IM or such, then it quits fast.

Whole game is wonderful, only these missions are annoying and I found way how to bind W to accelerate...

Even more wonderful if you up the YON value from 35 to 120 so that you get a good view distance. I can run it at my native resolution of 1680x1050 perfectly fine. The first game, though, I can't run at such a high resolution, but that's probably more to do with using DOSBox as it is more CPU intensive.

I hear you on the missions though. I've been stuck on the Group 5 mission for some time. It is a checkpoint race in the snow, so control is difficult as you easily slide about. I came so close earlier to doing it, too, the clock hit 0 as I went flying through the finish, but as the out of time message had come up it mean mission failed. :( I might have to cheat to skip it.

I have the same thing, but after waiting for about 2 minutes it quits automatically.
