It would be nice if GOG also included a scan of the newspaper ("Antarctica International Times") that came with the US version of the game. I am desperately searching for one for a long time.
You can find one here (scroll down the page)

Thank you! But isn't this only one page? Presumably there are four pages.
That's all I could find. Sorry.

Thanks for the link... wow, that's cool! I'm sure my Australian "Infogrames" copy didn't have that newspaper but I'm pretty sure it had the poster (my CD art and case is the first one shown in that link).

I loved when games included "extras" (comics, props, in-universe trinkets, etc.) back in the 80's and 90's, and I really miss those days... now you have to buy $150+ "Collector's Editions" to get any physical goodies with your games, and they don't even bother including a manual anymore! :(

I too would love to find the complete newspaper if there was indeed more than that single page (I assume it was at least double-sided)... can anyone confirm?

Also, I just noticed in an old walkthrough that the newspaper is used to solve a puzzle later in the game... old school copy protection! I don't remember that, but does this mean it's absence makes the game (since it came with the US version and the version sold by GOG is the US version) unbeatable?

The newspaper I have is four pages, printed on one piece of folded paper, i.e. page 1 and 4 on one side, and page 2 and 3 on the other. I don't remember if the newspaper is needed for any of the puzzles... or indeed if I actually ever played through the US version, or just the European one. If any of the articles are needed for puzzles, I would assume it's the ones titled Sorcerer's Riddle I and Sorcerer's Riddle II, because they look a bit out of place to me.

Thanks for the info! The walkthrough I noted did mention that being the puzzle. I only ever owned the European version, and I know I finished that, so how the copy protection comes to play in the US one is a mystery to me too. I assumed the game was always a CD-only release, and most forms of copy protection were removed during that era.

Obviously, the next question is... would you be able to scan your copy of the newspaper? :) I don't think it's ever been scanned online (certainly not at ReplacementDocs) and I hate the thought that any of these great "bits and pieces" of game fiction get lost in time without preservation!

I don't know for sure. I might be able to, but I wouldn't feel comfortable distributing it since I don't hold any rights to it. If someone from GOG were to say, "Why, yes, we do have the right to distribute it, we just haven't been able to find any copy of it," that would be a different matter of course. But I don't even know if that sort of thing ever happens.

Of course, that's your call, but I personally don't think a piece of documentation would be an issue.

If it wasn't for generous collectors, scanners and sites like Replacementdocs, *many* fantastic documents would be lost (and I know many of GOG's manual scans originated in just such fan-preserved sources). Awesome things like Space Quest III's "Two Guys" punch-out glasses/snout would be lost forever if not for those few who own them keeping, scanning and preserving them, in many cases long after the original rights holders didn't even care about the game itself anymore.

IMO, the whole concept of "abandonware" is a very grey area, but I would be shocked if anyone aside from the most litigious of publishers (one does spring to mind!) were worried about an old manual or poster being scanned. Again, though, that's just my personal feeling.

Regardless, I'd be most surprised if GOG wasn't interested if you offered to scan the newspaper for *them* to include with their extras, if you still felt worried about posting it for free.

I'd be ok with that, of course. I've sent them a message asking what the situation is. Of course, this still assumes that I'll be able to get a good scan of it. (My boxed version also contained a poster, but that one looks harder to scan since it's quite a bit larger than the newspaper.)
I got a reply back indicating that they "will add this content to the game's bonus downloads soon". So at least for the moment it looks like I won't have to scan mine.

Then it would be nice if they also make a scan of "The Mystery Examiner" of part 2 of "Alone In The Dark". See my thread "Cropped 'The Mystery Examiner'". (But scanning these large newspapers with an ordinary A4 scanner is definitely complicated.)

I've never seen that one. Have GOG said anything about why it's not included? The contact address I used was the "Contact us" link, with the "Other (general feedback, suggestions, kudos... etc)" type of inquiry and the "bonus content comments/suggestions" problem type. Perhaps that would work for that, too? (Though technically it hasn't yet worked for this...)

That should be fixed. Redownload your Mystery Examiner for AITD 2 and let me know what you think :)

It is included, but it WAS cropped (some text on the right edge of one page was missing). But they added a new version which I didn't knew of and hadn't downloaded yet. The new version is perfect.
