What is the details of your computer: OS, screen resolution, processor, etc ...?

Have you tried running the game as administrator?

Caesar 3 ran fine until I was in the middle of Procurator status in Dangerous assignment (as opposed to peaceful)

Whenever I get to Aug 162 BC, the game crashes.

After crashing a small box pops up that says c3.exe crashed.

I had to write down info since each time it crashes it gives a new error file name which is never found. It does generate a very small status.txt file in the Caesar 3 folder. The status.txt file doesn't contain much valuable info but will paste it further below.

I was playing this on an XP Pro machine when it crashed and I've tried all of the possible screen resolutions but the game still crashes once I am in the midst of Procurator in Aug 162 BC (dangerous assignment).

I have tried running this as administrator with no difference as it still crashes.

AND I also loaded this onto my laptop which has Windows 7 and the game also ran well - UNTIL I was in the mids of Procurator status in Aug 162 BC (dangerous assignment)

Wish the popup box allowed for saving since there's no way I can write the entire info in the crash file BUT I did type some info that will hopefully help you figure out why the game keeps crashing and what possible resolution there might be.

Info from the crash box PopUp on the XP pc:

* There were several other module nos. for C3 listed but too much to write down then type.

NOW I will paste info from the status.txt file that was created after the crash (still couldn't find the accompat.txt file that was supposedly created by the crash and I did search the entire pc for it)

I didn't finish the Procurator "Peaceful" assignment so not sure if it crashes during that as I've only made it to 132 BC.

But I'd like to continue on with this game if you can provide a fix.

Thanks.
I should have mentioned above that I used to own Caesar 3 on CD and that it never crashed.

I remember making it through Procurator's dangerous assignment without any issues.

Also I was able to complete all assignments and make it through to the end.

you should fill out a GOG support ticket for caesar 3:

http://www.gog.com/support/contact/technical_issues_with_games/caesar_3

just basically copy the info you have above and see if they can help you

good luck!
Dave, thanks for your reply.

I just created a DXDIAG for this XP machine and just brought my Win7 laptop in here to do the same. That way they will have info on both machines that Caesar 3 crashed on.

Take care

Did you ever get a resolution to this problem? I'm having the exact same problem myself (have tested my save file on windows XP, Windows 7 and in various versions of WINE - all with the same result: CRASH! at the end of aug 162BC in Procurator Dangerous)

I just discovered only minutes ago that I had a message about this problem.

YES I got the game to work BUT only because I had purchased Caesar 3 on CD a few years ago and thankfully I save all of my sav's in case I ever need to revert back to one of them.

I used a sav file from the game I had years ago and it enabled me to get past the glitch in the GOG game. And my pc didn't require a CD to continue playing the game.

Will try to find the correct file to get past the Procurator problem then will ask support if I can send the file to them for them to share with others.

~~~~~~~~~
I switched pc's a week ago and just now installed Caesar 3 on my new pc so that I could go back to see where I was able to get past the freeze glitch in the GOG version.
I managed to make it past Aug 167 BC by using an old sav file from when I used to play this game from the original CD.
The closest I could get to being a Procurator around 167 BC (where the glitch is in the GOG version), I was able to find and use an old sav file that starts in Oct 166 BC and it's playing as "Peaceful" but should get you through the 167 BC glitch.
PROCURATOR-peace0015-GOOD-FILE.sav (Oct 166 BC - Peaceful)
** You CAN rename this file and also place a copy of it in your Caesar 3 folder. I gave it this name so that I'll know where to start whenever I play the game again down the road.
NOTE: I still have many old sav files from this game from a few years ago so if you run into a glitch again, just let me know the YEAR and the POSITION (curator, etc) that you are playing so that I can test my old sav files out and try to get you close to where the game froze.
So if a Moderator will contact me via my acct email address and give me permission, I will gladly share the above file to help others.
Also note that I discovered that the GOG version of Caesar 3 is missing a few files which I found on the Original CD. I spent time comparing several files last year and I placed the missing files into my directory so they may possibly enable the game to be run without any glitches but am not sure since it's been a little over a year.
PS. I was happy to see that this game works on Windows 7 which I am now using!
I just sent a message to Tech Support about the .sav file that will get others past the 167 BC glitch in Caesar 3.
Also sent the file but had to change it from a .sav to a .jpg for the system to allow the upload.
I will await their response and if they are willing I will also share the other missing files that were on the original Caesar 3 CD.
Take care.
Hi crazy dave.
Tech support must be busy because I haven't heard from them. I have been working with thedwarf on this and have sent him 3 different sav files now.
He sent me the sav file he had problems with and unlike mine, his file froze the program. Mine always crashes the program then sends an error report.
I'll keep working with thedwarf in the hopes that one of my files will help him get on with the game.
I'm willing to share good sav files with others but it would be easier if Tech Support acquired them then just shared them with the game files for others.
Either way I'll help if I can.
Take care and thanks for dropping in.
Aye tech support can be a little busy, if you don't hear back from them soon, just drop 'em another e-mail - let me know what happens! :)
I received the following reply from Tech Support this morning:
"Thank you for writing and describing the solution to this issue.
Thank you for offering the files, but it won't be needed.
Have a nice day."
...
So guess I'll hang onto my sav files in case anyone else needs them down the road.
Nice, sounds like we'll be getting a "game updated" flag on our accts soon :) - thanks for all your work on this!
