So I was playing Broken Sword 1 (love it) for the first time and I came across the two substitution ciphers near the beginning of the game. I was having a little trouble solving the second one, so I enlisted my sister's help and together we were able to solve it. Now my sister keep asking me to find more ciphers to solve.

Are there more ciphers coming up in this game? Does have anyone have game recommendations that involve solving ciphers? Suggestions would be very much appreciated.

That's all you'll be encountering in the game. But, if it's not too late, I'd start playing the original version of Broken Sword and leave the newer version behind. You're kinda playing the bastardized version of the game.

I'd hadn't even realized I got the original with this one. Are there major differences between the versions. Didn't notice what was added as I've never played this before, but I am a big fan of character development.

I suppose I can play them both. I'd heard about Broken Sword as being great, but it took me awhile to get around to playing it. Very glad that I did. Thanks. +1

They took the "Paris in the Fall" intro out. I'm not saying that is reason enough for all the complaining, but you have to understand that when the game came out and that intro was the first people saw when starting the game -- and considering how gorgeous it was --, removing it altogether was a big mistake by Revolution.

As for the matter at hand, I'd just say to keep playing the Director's Cut (*gasp*!, heresy!, I know, I know), since it does have more cypher puzzles (I think you have at least two more cypher puzzles in two of Nico's mini-chapters), whereas the original has no cyper puzzles at all. Once you finish the Director's Cut, do try and play the original, at least to take a look at how the game looked and felt, originally. It's one of the best point & click adventures ever made, and you should at least give it a try.

They actually took a lot of stuff out of the original game when they made the remake. First off, a lot of cut scenes have been removed or altered. A lot of dialogue has been removed. Several hot points have been removed. Deaths have been removed. Several puzzles have been drastically simplified (The famous Goat puzzle for starters). The character's portrait that pops up during a conversation was neat at first, but it got old about halfway thru the game and was actually distracting to me. Not saying the remake is bad...Nico's plot line, though not really adding anything pertinent to the main story, is at least interesting. The graphical touch-ups they've done to the game does make a difference. The game looks better than it did when it was released, and that's saying something because the game was visually gorgeous when it first came out. But they sacrificed several salient features of the original game that I have stated above. I actually think that people's dislike for the remake is a generational thing. People that played the original when it first came out tend to despise the director's cut, while newer players of the game like the newer version. Most of these people, I think, are being introduced to the game through the new Director's cut version of the game. I guess, all things considered, I can't get too upset about this…At least new folks are playing the game and enjoying it. But as a previous poster stated, I would definitely play the original at some point after finishing the director's cut. The greatness of the original game, especially when it was first released, cannot be overstated. It truly is one of the top 2 or 3 point and click games ever made.
