So, I installed the remasterd version of Broken Sword 2 and didn't notice it right away. But reaching the docks in Marseille it was obvious, that I wasn't hearing any background sounds. (The Doorman lacks some personality without his sounds ;)

I'm playing the game on a WinXP computer.
Installation file passed the integrity check. (Twice, as I reinstalled the game)
Music and dialogs work just fine.
SFX slider is up to the max.
openal32.dll is installed and working.

Am i missing something?

I'm downloading the game now and will reply if I have the same problem or not, on Windows 7 PRO 64bit.

Very slow download today, for some reason.. so it might take a while!

Are you using the downloader?
I haven't tried the downloader. I always download without it and it's pretty fast. This time it was my connection that was bad, cause everything else was downloading too slow. Is the downloader recommended, though?
****Solution****

I finally solved the problem: It was a driver issue of my Terratec Aureon 5.1 PCI sound card. This was a total surprise to me, since I 've never had any problems with sound card drivers in 15 years of gaming.

The GOG support suggested to update my sound card's driver but as it is no longer supported (the latest driver was released in 08/2007), I had to switch to my on-board sound card, a Realtek AC'97 type one, which is also no longer supported, and... it crashed the game on startup!

So I reduced through dxdiag the sound card hardware acceleration by one point and... it worked! Finally I can hear the birds in Paris again and the doorman's personality is restored. ;-)

I recommend it. Instead of downloading one big file, it loads several smaller files, joins them to a big one and runs the integrity check. So if something goes wrong during the download, it doesn't have to start from scratch (or so I guess; never happened to me). And with the downloader you can pause a download and download several games in queue.

BTW, could you please repost my solution (without the “****Solution**** “ part), because, apparently, I can't mark my own post as solution. Thanks.
Reposting for marking purposes. Solution by Ricoh. BTW, glad to hear you got it fixed!
