Thanks a lot for breaking that down. i'm doing exactly as you say but when i try and save the changes in the ini. it flashes up access denied. i then tried saving it as a different name and it said saving in that location and need permission from the administrator. i understand how to launch the game as administrator but not how to make these changes!

Cut the file from the game folder and paste it on your desktop, edit the file there, save it, and finally put the file back in the game folder.

The edited file has to have the same name of the original, sword1.ini, which means it should be the only one you have in the game folder. The edited file won't work with a different name.

btw, where did you create the SAVES folder ?

created it at the root of c:\ as suggested. thanks a lot, maybe i'll uninstall and then try again from scratch

If you do unistall and then install again, you could try to install it someplace other than the default directory "Program Files" - Vista and Win7 through UAC can get in the way of stuff installed to Program Files working as it should.

I had to check "Run as administrator" on the Scummvm.exe file for my saves to work. None of the path or quotes ideas worked for me. I'm running Win7 64.

That did the job for me. I tried to run the game exe from desktop to run as administrator but thta didn't work. It never crossed my mind to run the scummvm.exe as admin. Thanks for the help.

Thanks, this one worked for me, except I have to always run the game as administrator for the save/restore function to work.

N.B.I tried running the game as administrator before altering the savepath, but that didn't work. Also tried the quotation solution with administrator, but that only half worked and still didn't work properly.

Just tried the original solution and it works fine now - too long a pathway for a save, I guess.

I'm using Windows 8, so I thought people might like to know it works with this OS.

Windows 8 user.

Changed savepath to C:\saves - didn't work
Changed savepath to C:\(gamefolder)\saves - didn't work
Tried both above with and without quotes
Removed savepath entirely from ini - didn't work

What finally worked was running scummvm as admin, adding the game directory and then running it. Maybe running through scummvm not as admin would have worked too as it seems to not utilize the sword1.ini at all (assumed because the subtitles are off by default in contrast to the sword1.ini settings). ?

what fixed it to me was to put ALL the spaces out of the savepath, and other pathes in the sword1.ini (just use the replace tool of the editor)

e.g. J\games\Broken Sword\ -> J\games\BrokenSword\

this way you dont need the strange "C:SAVES" folder

of course you need to delete all the spaces out of your game folder as well

this worked fine for me

For all others still having problems:
try to open scummvm manually (it's in the installation folder) and select "add new game" and point it to your installation path
