Well... we have Broken Sword 2 and Broken Sword 3 is coming soon.... anyone know if we'll be getting the first one?
I know the game has issues with XP and above, along with certain HDDs above a couple of gigabytes.
Best guess: It will be available when they can get it working with as few issues as possible. Revolution Software has been fairly good in the past in trying to keep it supported/running.

Well, I've experienced problems with BS1 running within Win XP, however I could easily overcome them by enabling compatibility mode. Anyway, BS1 runs flawlessly with ScummVM leaving any possible incompatibility behind. Incompatibility can't be a reason.
Weird that they got 2 before 1 and only 3 shows up in the coming soon list.
Maybe it has something to do with the game Director's Cut being released on Wii and DS in March.
Hope they get Shadow of the Templars here soon , and Broken Sword 4 (it's the only one I didn't played)

It works with ScummVM. [EDIT] Man, now I did it. Posted without reading the rest of the thread :-(
And yes, those few of us who have never played any of these, would maybe rather like to start with the first one, eh? I know I would.

Excellent! More adventure games. Hope that we are going to get Broken Sword 1 too.

Yes, I would assume the company does not want a $6 DRM free version of the game out there right before they release it for $30 on the DS.
We'll probably get it a while after that.
I had forgotten about scummVM compatibility, so I take that comment back.
I need to stop posting at 1am at get back to a little research before I go ahead and hit the green button D:

I think the original sets you up quite nicely for the sequel and I can't imagine how poorer it might feel going backwards. I've played them all previously anyway, so it's something of a moot point for me personally, but as you rightly say I know what I'd prefer.
...and it's not the DS version :P

Yup... I played through a good chunk of Broken Sword 1 on (believe it or not) my Trio 750 before the phone up and died. But I'd really, really like to go back and finish it off before continuing on to part 2.
Did someone mention that BS1 was coming to the Wii? Not my platform of choice (having to physically point at the screen in a point-and-click type game gets old after a short while), but it may do...

It won't do for those of us who don't have a Wii.
I would like to have the first game too. A friend of mine said that the first game sets up a lot of the relationships between characters which resonates in the sequel. I can see that happening in my playtime of Smoking Mirror, but so far not in a way that hampers my playing. Still one would have liked to play this in sequence. Smoking Mirror has been good old-fashioned fun.
Apparently they're making a Broken Sword film based on The Shadow of the Templars... coming out in 2010. Would be great to see huge interest in the games before the film comes out again (if they manage to stay true to the game plot with the film... otherwise it'll just be disappointing).
But yeah, I agree with many posts above, Revolution probably don't want a cheap version of their game being released as another official release is..released. Release.

"George Stobart, former professional wrestler and secret agent flies to paris and gets embroiled in an international conspiracy. Assisted by pastry chef and former exotic dancer nico collard, he must face down the ancient order of knights templar and their army of cyborg ninjas! Coming this summer!!"
Is that the kind of disappointing you mean?

you forgot the car chase, explosions and the final shootout (featuring slow-mo effects,kung-fu and a killrate of 1,76589 goons per second)
you know just like in the game!
