I backed the game on Kickstarer a couple of years back, got it on Steam but will it also include access to the game here on GOG?

I'm also wondering, as a backer I received my Steam code but would much rather have it here on GOG.

I recently messaged Double Fine on Kickstarter about this, but if you want a key too, it'd probably be best to message them or ask on their forums as well. I haven't heard anything back from them on my end.

I asked on their forum and got no answer from them.

I guess that's a "no".

Unfortunately, we aren't distributing GOG keys to backers. But, the build at GOG is the same as the original DRM-free release, so you get the same version and updates.

If GOG was a hand-held, tablet-friendly, user-friendly, casual-friendly, mentally-challenged-friendly platform, for sure you would.

I can see how it was easy to assume that "DRM free" plus it being released on GOG would mean that backers got a GOG key.

Can I send you guys back the shirt for the $70 pledge and swap it for a GOG key instead? One would think with such a successful Kickstarter campaign that arranging backers to get GOG codes(a preferred convenient method of DRM free downloading) just as Steam users have Steam codes would have been the...considerate thing to do. It certainly makes for easier PR than the above quote.

I expect that the thought behind this decision is that giving now keys to the GOG version will result in people "reselling" their keys thus resulting in lost sales for Double Fine.

While it's a fair worry, my concern with this is that all the backers (as a reminder, people who paid to support the development of a game even before it started) are considered as thieves by default and people who can not be trusted.

That's a shame but I guess that's how the world works nowadays... Will keep that in mind for the future.

Yeah it is a shame and I wasn't expecting this. However I had failed to realise that I do have the up-to-date DRM free version on HB, I feel a little miffed.

I think part of what gets to me so much is how Steam-centric game publishing is becoming, and I have been complicit in supporting that. Almost every game being developed these days has a cry of "STEAM CODE??!?!" and if it doesn't have one, it can lose heavily on sales.

Surely economic history shows how bad the monopolisation of ANY industry is for customers :(
