Sigh.
This game is buggy.
When trying to follow the spider that swallowed someone (Old Town), the spider gets stuck on a tree between the 4th house and the next set of houses (where the first 4 houses are, when you have to walk along the telephone lines for the first time).
I have tried going past the spider, and it says I lost him.
I tried hitting and shooting him, but he just dies.
I have exited and relaoded, it doesnt fix it.
Anyone know a way to get him unstuck?
You can try choosing "restart level", but since reloading didn't help, then I'm afraid it won't help either. Alternatively there are cheats that allow you to choose a level, but I didn't try it.

Dave3d: (...) the spider gets stuck on a tree (...)

Are you using SLI / crossfire or a dual-PCB card (like 9800x2) ? I've had some REALLY weird issues with Max Payne 1 & 2 and it sounds a bit similar... If so - get into the card's config page, go to applications and FORCE the card into using a single core / no SLI. While some other setting might fix it, it's all about NOT optimizing it for a multi-card setup.
Nope.
Single card (GTX280).
I do have an 8800gt dedicated to phys-x though.
I have read everywhere that this is common bug in the game though.
I may restart the game, and see if it happens again though (grrrr).
Or, maybe do the cheat thing, like Paradoks suggested.
It's hard to determine what may be causing such strange bugs - you can try experimenting with things that shouldn't have anything to do with this but may prove useful for whatever reason. You can try changing the renderer to either OpenGL or Direct3D, depending on which one you are using now, or changing compatibility to Win98 for example.

I'm pretty sure that's what's causing you trouble. Try to find a way to either disable the second card or PhysX in Bloodrayne (IDK - Nvidia control panel, PhysX control panel... Something). Removing the card would likely fix the problem immediately, but that's too inconvenient...
Hey I had this exact same issue with the spider but I somehow managed to unstuck it (is that even a word?) by jumping on it and shooting it a couple of times with my lightest guns. Took only a few attempts, first the water killed me but I used godmode to solve that problem, then I accidentally killed the spider, but after all it wasn't that hard. I'm sure you've already tried all the tricks so I guess I was just lucky, but maybe you could try something like that again.
Strangely i did not enconter this problem i however find a lot of jumping gliches where i can jump onto seemingly flat surfaces.
Well, I never played again after this bug (which I never did get fixed).
Maybe when I clear the list of better games I havent finished yet I will get back to it.

I noticed this happening when I played through the 1st BR. Happened on two separate occasions where I noticed that the spider thingie keep trying to walk through a tree submerged in the water. Eventually it would work itself loose though; it required about 2 minutes both times it happened.
I have the same problem. I did buy the GOG version because i was too lazy to search for my old US version, so i went to the basement and installed the normal US version.
Everything is fine with that, no stuck spidrs here.
The stuck spider problem seems to be exclusive for the GOG version of the game or maybe the european version.
It was only 4 dollar something because of the holiday sale, so i let it go. If i had payed the full price, it would try to get it back because the damn thing has a bug that the original game did not have.

The latter sounds more likely; I remember running into this in my non-GOG version... I simply reloaded the level, played a tiny bit differently (lagged a little bit, instead of rushing through everything, IIRC) and got past it, so it's annoying but not game-breaking.

Then again - I actually never ran into the issue on subsequent replays 0_o... Apparently - the pathing only SOMETIMES screws up.

I just downloaded, installed, and got stuck at the old tree too. I have a new Pentium machine with single AMD card. After 20+ times, I discover the secret, at least on my install. At the 4th roof, perhaps kill one man, but leave at least one alive and go out on wire just past the first post. Once the spider is stuck, turn and fire one shot back at man. Immediately turn and chase after spider (if it unsticks, as it often did.) You have NO time to lose.

When that wire ends, jump thru water and up onto wire to left. When 2nd wire ends, wire to right is inviting but wrong. Jump thru water to another wire to left. If I remember (may have left something out, -- perhaps jump to rooftop and out on 4th wire attached to left end of house.) run to end of wire in middle of nowhere and cut scene starts.

This took about 30 tries total. I really hate this sort of take 10s of tries platform jumper in the middle of what is promoted as an action shooter.
This didn’t happen to me at all, I’m not really sure what I did but I got past that part the first time around.
hey man, use your harpoon on it. just give it a little tap with the harpoon and it will get unstuck, i had the same thing happen to me
