When ever I enter the menu (pressing ESC), i get an annoying, high-pichted sound.
apparently my GeForce 8800 GTS is producing that sound, and this is only happening while i'm in the menu. Ingame, everything is normal (no strange sounds, performance is normal).
Is there a way to fix this?

Hi,
I just bought BloodRayne but haven't installed it yet. Dragons Age Origins is taking too much of my time right now.
In any case, what OS are you using ?

I've seen some threads on other forums mentioning that high pitch noise with the 8800's. Apparently that sometimes happens with that series, but i don't know if there's a fix, sorry.
There are a couple of instances where high pitch noise sounds seem to be related to dying/inadequate PSU's, so maybe try to make sure yours is ok...
Is this similar to what you're having ?

Obviously you should have purchased the 8800 Ultra instead... the louder fan noise would have completely drowned out any other sounds!

no, because in this movie, the squeal is coming from the PSU. but in my case, it's the GPU.
I also get this high pichted squeal only in this particular game, and even there it just happens when i'm in the menu.

Well, since it's just with this one game and only when the menu comes up i really don't know what could be causing it.
Have you tried enabling/disabling V-Sync to see if that makes any difference ?
hmm... v-sync is disabled, but i'll give it a try and enable it.

I was told by BFG tech that it is a coil on the GPU that does not have enough shielding material on it. It is a known problem with Analog power control on high end GPUs that draw LOTS of power. I have a GTX 260 and it does this when i play farcry, To me it seems to be FPS linked. i get 2000-3000fps in menus and 700-800 fps in the game at 1920X1080 with 16x AA and 16X AF. Turn on Vsinc and it goes away. so at least on mine i think it is a problem in the Frame generators but it is supposed to be fixable by covering the power coils with nail polish. I have not tried this as the 260s have a full shroud but the 8800s might not so you might still be able to get to the coils with out removing anything. But if you do so it is at your own risk.
Edit: its not supposed to hurt any thing just that its annyoing.

so... v-sync did not solve the problem.
guess i'll have to live with it since it's only when i'm in the menu of the game.
but it's still odd that this is only happening in this game... Oo
I have a GTX 260 and I've had this same issue in a few older games.
As Xplane has said (and he has the same model GPU as me though his appears to be BFG whilst mine is an XFX) it does appear to be related to the frames per second. I had the issue in Colin McRae Rally 2005 but that had a visual effect too in fast moving graphics. Turning on v-sync in the game settings fixed both the fast moving graphics and stopped the high pitched noise from the graphics card.
So, I think you need to lower your FPS, so turn on v-sync, raise the display resolution, turn the graphics settings up higher (if you can) and see how it gets on.
For reference, I've also had a very minor version of this noise (just a lower pitched slight buzzing sound) in Thief 3.
Another thing you could try is running it in a window on your desktop if the game allows it.

as I said before, turning v-sync on did not fix this little issue.
the settings for graphics and resolution are already maxed out.
btw: my Geforce is also an XFX.
You can also try turning v-sync on in the nvidia control panel rather than in the game's own settings.

ThermioN: as I said before, turning v-sync on did not fix this little issue.

My advice wasn't just about the turning on of v-sync, it was to do this in conjunction with turning all the other graphics settings up which you hadn't stated you had done, though now you have.
But even so, where did you turn on the v-sync? In-game or in the nvidia control panel, or both?
And I also suggested seeing if you can run in a window to see if this helps. I don't know if the game natively supports a windowed mode, so can you let us know if it can and if it fixes it?
Another thing you can do is get nvidia system tools and to underclock the GPU to drop it's performance and thus reduce the framerate so that it doesn't make the noise. If this works then you could save the underclocked settings to a profile for when you play this game.

there is no way to turn v-sync on in-game, so i did this by using the nvidia control panel.
also you can't run this game in a window, because there's no value stored for this is the .ini file (and the game won't offer this mode either).
thanks for all your advice so far!

Do you think an FPS limiter app could help ?
