How did they port it? Did somebody find the lost source code, or did they reverse engineer it?

(Also, how did I not hear about this until GoG emailed me announcing it's release??)

It was all handled by Nightdive Studios; it didn't get a ton of press but those following them on Twitter got tidbits of info. You could try asking them on Twitter these questions.
