Sloopydrew, what type of mouse do you have? Your problem seems to be consistent both with setting Blood up manually and with the GOG installation. You said you had other programs running in DOSBox. I can imagine that any stock USB mouse wouldn't have issues, but it's an outside possibility.

I was thinking the same thing. But I'm starting to also think that Sloopy has no idea what he's doing. He should reinstall the game as it comes from GOG and simply run the setup program that comes with it. It's really easy.

That doesn't allow you to change the mouse settings.

It's a 5 button mouse with one scroll wheel. There's a button on the left side, on the right side, and the two main buttons all PC mouses have. Then, of course, the clickable scroll-wheel between them. And there's another button that lets me adjust the speed of the cursor from 1-10.

And thanks, once more, DustyStyx for the help you gave! Maybe johncrystal is right (despite his being incredibly condescending) and I just don't know what I'm doing. But I did follow your instructions -- multiple times -- step by step. And could not get it to work. But that is NOT the fault of your instructions, but either my own misunderstanding of your instructions of the way my OS is set up.

@sloopydrew

May we at least ask for your system specs and a little hardware info, in case someone wants to try to replicate this error you're getting?

EDIT: name corrected.

I think the problem may be that I'm using the GOG version of the game. And the instructions DustyStyx set up included a lot for people using the disc version. Regardless, I'm stuck. Stuck, I tell you! It makes me a sad panda.

BTW - Why did you mention Motley Crue (but spelled "crew") as the authors of a Quiet Riot song a few posts back?

I have the GOG version of the game. Any chance you could edit your steps to fit exactly that version of the game, with that configuration? If that's too much to ask, I fully understand. Thank you.

@Sloopydrew
I misidentified the band, then misspelled their band name. I didn't bother to look it up. Quiet riot did occur to me days later however.

I think you should reinstall if you're willing to have another go. Don't change the the default folder Gog tries to put it in this time. Just tic admin rights on the DB and Blood exes before you try the Start>Gog.com>One unit whole blood>setup method listed in the Blood Setup thread below. That's the easiest method minus BMouse.

The instructions I provided are what some one would have to go through to manually replicates what GoG offers, from scratch. The main differences being that GoG's default install location is in Program Files rather than the user's profile.

There are a few minor dosboxBlood.conf differences, allocated ram, video mode and using bMouse, but since you disabled bMouse in your configuration, the other settings would not effect your mouse. The other main difference is that Gog renamed the iso and cue files, to something I can't remember just now... but again that would not effect your mouse.

The main purpose of the exercise was for you to gain an understanding of what is going on with the copy you got form GoG, as they are virtually parallel.

We need to determine at what point DOSBox fails on you. Can you launch into Blood? If so, can you move about using the keyboard, and does the mouse have any functionality at all ie, when you move the mouse will the character move back and forth, or turn your view from side to side?

My last post didn't work, so I'll make this one simpler (it said a formatting error was in my last reply):

1. I can move using keyboard.
2. Mouse moves left and right, but instead of up and down, it moves my character forward and back.

okay, that sounds like the mouse is working for you. While in game, press the U-key on your keyboard to activate mouse look.

AWESOME! (And embarrassing, that's all it took.) It worked!

Now ... one more question, for old time's sake -- is there a way to make it look up when you move the mouse up, instead of looking down (and vice-versa)?

I just marked your post as "solution." Thanks again for all your help!

Hurray!

10. Additional mouse settings:
Open %userProfile%\Programs\Blood\Blood.cfg with Notepad and edit the following entries:
MouseAimingFlipped = 1 (or 0 if you are a fighter pilot)
