I have been playing Blood since it came out in 1997, and I keep coming back to it. I got this new version thinking it would be an upgrade, only to find that I can't set up the control bindings to work the way I'm used to. I have always used my right mouse button to strafe, but where is the control binding for that? I can't even find a binding for the keyboard, only bindings for "strafe left" or "strafe right." Useless.

Somebody tell me if I'm missing something.

The controls are set up for a modern control scheme, with WSAD for forwards, backwards, strafe left and strafe right. It has no strafe modifier button. You are't missing anything.

Why would they choose "modern" controls for a retro game? I don't see where it improves anything. The original control setup would allow you to map any key you wanted. They removed functionality, to what end? I guess that's for them to say.

Personally I prefer modern control schemes. For instance, using ECWolf for Wolfenstein 3D, BStone for Blake Stone, using GZDoom for Doom, EDuke32 for Duke Nukem 3D, etc. I use a WASD scheme with A and D for strafing left and right, and turning done by using the mouse.

Now you can play all of these old games the way they used to be controlled with the source ports I've listed there, so yes I agree that they should have allowed you to use the original control settings with Fresh Supply, but there's certainly nothing wrong with improving the controls to a modern scheme. This also allows gamers who never played the original to more quickly get into it with familiar modern controls.

I've played with some of the source ports you list. I'll have to try the others. Thanks for the tip. As to playing with WASD, I have a permanent injury to my left hand that makes that impractical. But as regards this particular game, I don't think it's a source port. It looks to me like something they wrapped around the original game. I don't know anything about the outfit that produced it. AFAIK, the source code for Blood has never been released, and probably never will be if it hasn't happened by now.

I think you'll find BloodGDX (now part of BuildGDX) quite to your liking, IIRC it keeps all 3 strafe keys (StrL/StrR/Str-Key). Just point ti to your OUWB install folder and click "Play" and you can set everything as you'll like it.

There are two ports for Blood. There's BloodGDX (part of BuildGDX now, as Megacyclo mentioned) which is a Java based port. Then there's nBlood, which is based on EDuke32. Both are supposed to be very good.
