I've been meaning to get around to that one, but when I tried it before I found it has some additional hurdles that make it annoying. If you have a working copy, please feel free to write up a how-to on it.
Personally I am waiting for XL Engine http://xlengine.com/ Besides Daggerfall, Dark Forces and Outlaws it will also support Blood and Shadow Warrior.

It is an open source engine made at the beginning to run Daggerfall. It has been some time while it is being made, but it seems like games are mostly playable by now. the author decided to make it open source after release.

I don't think XL will ever be complete. I don't know how many years it has been in this so called "pre-release" state now.
And BloodCM is illegal as fuck so no good there.

Yeah hehe I can feel you. But years ago it was different engine. It was rebuild and changed. Now we have video of game being completed with it. According to the author of blog (who is the creator) it is almost finished. So unless he is blatantly lying the playable state is really near. Almost there. When he will finally finish the final stuff and publish it, and open the source, I think it will be secure.

That is of course if he is not some fucking liar. Is not too lazy to / have not time to finish. And WILL open the source code. Obviously it seems like it might take some time. But if he will not resign or die I think it should probably be made at least in a couple of years.

I made it work but the performance is not brilliant because the best emulated CPU is a Mobile Pentium MMX 300Mhz.
So, FreeDOS 1.2 RC2 and VirtualBox 5.1.10 were released at the end of November. I'm happy to report that the audio shudder has gone away. I'm not sure which update that can be attributed to, but it's welcome none the less. I still can't seem to get the MIDI to work... oh well.

Edit: Had some problems with the retail version, but I've got it working fine now.
You will want to edit the fdconfig.sys file as follows:

SET DOSDIR=C:\FDOS
COUNTRY=001,858,C:\FDOS\BIN\COUNTRY.SYS
LASTDRIVE=Z
BUFFERS=20
FILES=40
DOS=HIGH
DOS=UMB
DEVICE=C:\FDOS\BIN\HIMEMX.EXE
DEVICE=C:\FDOS\BIN\JEMMEX.EXE
SHELL=C:\FDOS\BIN\COMMAND.COM C:\FDOS\BIN /E:1024 /P=C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT
SHELLHIGH=C:\FDOS\BIN\COMMAND.COM C:\FDOS\BIN /E:1024 /P=C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT
Most of the above is already in the FDCONFIG.SYS file that gets installed with FreeDOS, you will just need to delete out various menu options that you won't need when running Blood anyway.

Note: if you have problems with Blood crashing when attempting to run at higher resolutions, try swapping the load order of the DEVICE lines:

DEVICE=C:\FDOS\BIN\JEMMEX.EXE
DEVICE=C:\FDOS\BIN\HIMEMX.EXE

So, I was playing around with FreeDOS 1.2 and VirtualBox 5.1.28 and ran into a memory error with BLOOD trying to load it's DEM files. Turns out that BLOOD doesn't even need JEMM386 to run. Basically just running Option 4, "SafeMode" with CTMOUSE thrown in.

FDCONFIG.SYS
SET DOSDIR=C:\FDOS
COUNTRY=001,858,C:\FDOS\BIN\COUNTRY.SYS
LASTDRIVE=Z
BUFFERS=20
FILES=40
DOS=HIGH
DOSDATA=UMB
DEVICE=C:\FDOS\BIN\HIMEMX.EXE
SHELL=C:\FDOS\BIN\COMMAND.COM C:\FDOS\BIN /E:1024 /P=C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT
AUTOEXEC.BAT
@ECHO OFF
SET DOSDIR=C:\FDOS
SET LANG=EN
SET TZ=UTC
SET PATH=%dosdir%\BIN
if exist %dosdir%\LINKS\NUL SET PATH=%path%;%dosdir%\LINKS
SET NLSPATH=%dosdir%\NLS
SET HELPPATH=%dosdir%\HELP
SET TEMP=%dosdir%\TEMP
SET TMP=%TEMP%
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330
SET DIRCMD=/P /OGN /Y
SET COPYCMD=/-Y
SET AUTOFILE=%0
SET CFGFILE=C:\FDCONFIG.SYS
CTMOUSE
alias reboot=fdapm warmboot
alias reset=fdisk /reboot
alias halt=fdapm poweroff
alias shutdown=fdapm poweroff
alias cfg=edit %cfgfile%
alias auto=edit %0
set OS_NAME=FreeDOS
set OS_VERSION=1.2
if exist %dosdir%\bin\fdnet.bat call %dosdir%\bin\fdnet.bat start
if exist %dosdir%\bin\welcome.bat call %dosdir%\bin\welcome.bat
Also, found it a lot easier to get files INTO the FreeDOS VM if I just mount the VDI in a Linux VM and just copy the files I want over from there.
