hi,

I've just installed Blood 2 and with the help of the forum managed to get it running (compitability set to win 95, deactivated visual designs, scaling @ DPI and co), running it in
1280x960x16, with only poly gap fixing, triple buffering, mipmap sharpening and software pixel doubling enabled and set maxfps= 30 in the autoconfig and turned it read only.

(quadcore, win 7, ati radeon hd 6870 xfx)

However, the game is still flickering, sometimes showing me a frame in the background (native resolution is 1920x1080 so I'm guessing im getting the 960 frame), and I found out it works in a quasi-windowed mode (windowed fullscreen, no border).

Tested this because I want to record a Let's Play via Xsplit (only works with windowed games!) and the flickering increases alot when recording, even going as far as giving me flickering on the Crosshair and HUD, with the main screen, weapon and opponents behaving normally.

Anyone know a trick to stop this flickering and/or getting the game into actual windowed mode? If necessary, I can easily upload an example video of what I see.

EDIT: I've tried using the standard startup commands in the launcher (-w , -windowed), and because of the launcher I can't use the standard "make-it-windowed"-tools.

So... you've got all 4 applications in compatibility mode and maxfps set to 30... is the ati card's vsync set to "on"? Also you can set other values under the maxfps command. Some have had better luck with 55 or 60 for that value.
yeah I tried higher maxfps, which reduced but did not remove the flickering, tried with and without vsynch on..
Having this problem too, any idea?

Do you have an ati card?
yep, ATI radeon hd 5800, I mean, i can play the game It´s just It´s a little annoying
Hi,
I've owned the CD of Blood II since it came out in 1998 and also have an ATI card, but that doesn't matter because my old card was Nvidia and I've had to use the following fix on both.

Here is the note (Fix) I wrote for myself to fix the flickering problem, I wrote this years ago, and it works perfectly :

1. Install Blood II

2. Start the game& notice the small set-up configuration screen which pops up first.

START by clicking on the Advanced Options FIRST.

ENABLE THE FOLLOWING :

Enable Optimized Surfaces

Enable poly gap fixing (slower)

Enable triple buffering

3. Start the game. If no problems, then fine. But if there is a graphics problem - close out game, restart to bring up configuration screen in the beginning, change renderer from "Lithtech Direct3D renderer to "Lithtec Software Renderer.
* Suggested resolution 800x600x16.

I hope this works for you just as it did for me. I'm about to purchase the GOG version of Blood 2 because my disc is getting mighty old and this is a great deal. So I will try this fix on that version and write back if it doesn't work. But I'm positive it will.

Happy Hunting!

So, you're going to upgrade blood 2.1 the nightmare levels to blood 2.1 the nightmare levels? Sounds like a lot of work for nothing to me. Oh, there are 2 2.1 patches for blood2, one for the nightmare levels and one for the generic blood 2. Well this should be interesting. Software mode here we come!
zZaRDoZz,

Gog's version is already patched to v2.1.233. I just cut and pasted from the notes I wrote a long time ago.

I just installed this GOG version and I'm not showing any signs of flickering but if you do, try it because this is what fixed my original CD version. Plus it worked with both ATI and Nvidia as well as XP and Vista.

Let me know if this fixes it for you because it should from my experience with the settings.

Good luck

Yes, that's fine that you cut and paste from your notes. The problem is some people aren't going to understand that and may actually try to over write gog's version of blood 2 with the 2.0 & 2.1 patches which may in turn damage their installation. There are no official patches for the Nightmare levels.

Your earlier post made it look like there might be.
Correct you are sir,

I've editied the previous post to reflect the GOG version which is completely up to date with patches already. Thanks, at first I wasn't quite sure what you meant.

Although as stated before, I have installed the GOG version and have not needed to apply this fix as I did in past with the CD's. But the problem I had with the CD's was the flickering problem that the OP mentioned and this worked for me on different operating systems, different Graphics cards and numerous drivers. Hopefully it will work for others who are experiencing this problem.

Thanks for the correction.
