So, here I am, excited to play Blood II after buying it on sale. And lo and behold, the game fails to start at my specific resolution. And on top of that, when I did get it work, the mouse would not function (after changing some controls). And why can't I set the resolution to 32 bit color? Anyway, is there any way to get a refund? I'm really disappointed and in some regards, angry. Should have spent the money somewhere else...

Yes, I know I should have checked out the forums for any issues but when this site advertises that it's games are compatible with Vista and Windows 7, I really didn't feel the need to.

Edit: Now that I look at it, it's not that big of a deal. Playing it at 1440 X 900 is perfectly fine and I'm quite happy. I should not have been angry and should have looked at the forum boards before I bought the game. Lesson learned and happy killing. :]

I'd stay optimistic for a solution, as GOG has had its fair share of fixing issues related to compatibility in the past.

Browse to your Blood II folder and set the following compatibility options on BLOOD2.exe and Client.exe :

1. Run this program in compatibility mode for Vista Service Pack 2
2. Disable visual themes
3. Disable Desktop Composition
4. Run this program as admin

Be sure to select those for both executables. Run the game from BLOOD2.exe (not Client.exe) as this is needed to launch the game and make config settings.
Earlier lithtech engine games only supported 16bit color and this is one of those. Also certain resolutions will not work so it's best to start with a basic standard resolution like 1024X768 until you verify you have a stable game that works.

I can't start this game too, but you REALLY should first read about a game before complaining. The game only has 16 bit, it is OLD. You can't buy doom 1 and cry for it has shitty graphics ;P

But I can't start blood 2 either.

I knew well about this game when I played it about ten years ago. But it IS surprising that it only has 16 bit because there are games around the time Blood II was released (and even before) that have 32 bit color depth. Heck, Monolith's own game, Shogo, which operates on the same engine as Blood II has 32 bit color depth. I thought something was wrong with my computer or it was a bug of some sort that made it display 16 bit color depth.

The 16 bit issue is not a real issue -- I just wanted to know a reason as to why it was only displaying 16 bit color depth and not 32 and I got an answer. Should I have looked more into this? Definitely. But I was NOT going to research whether a game has compatibility with 32 bit color depth because games EARLIER than Blood II have compatibility with 32 bit color depth.

Yeah, the game won't work on higher resolutions. GOG is working on fixing all of their games for Win 7, which isn't TOO many games...so we should see it fixed shortly. Hopefully.

So they are actually pumping money into DOSBox development? That'd be kick-ass.
