Even after 13 years in the age of modern graphics in games like crysis, half life 2, this game has lost none of its appeal.I've never played it before and i got it because of of duke nukem 3D. The way the enemies react, sound effects, weapon sounds and gore effects are all top notch in my opinion.
And don't forget great level design and incredibly satisfying weaponry! I know of nothing better than a handful of dynamite... I have never played it before as well, now it seems better than Duke Nukem in my eyes

Very true.

Top-notch level design, with ingenious locations (especially in the first two episodes)? Check.

Powerful and very well-balanced weapons, every single one of them is useful in a particular situation? Check.

Diverse and dangerous enemies, with a wide array of attacks and an amazing number of death animations? Check.

Badass main character, multitudes of humorous movie references, super secrets and hidden levels? Check.

Pure awesomeness? Check!
One thing I really enjoy about Blood that isn't mentioned enough aside from amazing level design, humor, bosses, and horror references is that every weapon in the game is useful. I can't think of any other FPS where every gun has a purpose and is useful.

In every FPS out there you have certain weapons that you avoid, then you have weapons that kinda' suck but you use them on fodder enemies and preserving ammo for the better weapons. And then you have weapons that are clear upgrades (like the Doom Chaingun or the Double Barrel Shotgun in Quake) and there's no reason to use the downgraded versions like the Pistol or regular Shotgun.

Every weapon in Blood is amazing. Even the Flare Gun kicks ass and can kill Cultists and Zombies in one hit if you have some distance and the Alt Fire on the Flare Gun can easily clear a room out. Plus every weapon is satisfying to use on top of that.

Don't get me wrong, I love the entire arsenal Blood has to offer, but I also like to nit-pick. Some weapons don't do anything against some particular critter. You can try to flame a hell-hound all day with the spray can, and you wont get anywhere, likewise with a phantasm and the Tesla Cannon. In Bloodbath the flare gun dominates everything else, which really bothers me, because the other weapons really have their own appeal too.
Well, I think it's exactly the reason why the weapons of Blood are so balanced: every one of them has its own use against a particular foe or in a particular situation (close or ranged combat, crowd control etc.), there is no "super" weapon which makes the others useless. You constantly have to experiment to find out the best use of each of them.

That warrants a big fat spoiler warning, Bolch76. Please edit. Remember, not everyone reading this forum has played the game yet.
The sound effect for the lighter and aerosole can alone makes this game magnificant

Your wish is a command for me! :)
I kind of wish there was a super weapon in Blood. Maybe one that you got late in the game and could be used at the end. Don't know what but I do wish there was this great all powerful final weapon to kill Tchernobog, or anybody else for that matter >)

Well, Blood 2 did have a - supposedly - "super weapon" (the singularity generator, which could be found on one of the last levels), but it was actually one of the least useful weapons. Blood 1 is much better - no super weapon, but each of them is useful.

This is true but I still like Super Weapons. Especially one's you have to work for like the Chronoscepter in the first Turok.

This is true but when you try my game that I will release in 2016 you will never be able to go back to Blood again.

Aha, I never played Blood 2. So this is where the singularity generator comes from. The makers of Chaos UT for Unreal Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2004 copied the idea for their mod. UT and UT2004 has some great weapons, especially with some good mods.
I agree that Blood is better without any super weapon.

I played the shareware version back in 1997. Even at that time I knew that it was something special.

Fourteen years later and it's still as fun today as it was during it's initial release. I find it very underrated and sadly I think it didn't receive as many sales as it could because it seemed to some like it was one-dimensional. When clearly it was more than just that.
