It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

As per the topic title, I'm met with this error upon launch.
My OS is Windows 10 Home, set in American English.
Any help would be very appreciated!

Edit: found the workaround. I downloaded an utility called Locale Emulator.
Setting the setting inside of it to American English allowed the game to run straight away.
You can even create a shortcut for simple further launching.

I have exactly the same problem. I have set my system to japanese to play japanese hentai games. I won't change my system language because no game in the world has this problem except bloodomen.

Edit: The Locale Emulator didn't work for me. Many dlls were missing to run that. Luckily I had Applocale still installed on my PC and I used it to run the "Launch Blood Omen - Legacy of Kain" Shortcut in the "Blood Omen" folder in "English". Too bad Applocale can't be downloaded from Microsoft anymore. I hope gog can solve this issue somehow.

Oh I didn't know Applocale could still work in Windows 10. I'll try to fetch it from an old computer sometimes.
This happen on JAP MUI of Windows with Japanese set to Unicode-not-supported-apps. So topic starter here do something with his Widnows MUI settings: if he REALLY use EN version of Win - should be ok bt default (that unicode option change automatically). Probably change back that unicode-option to japan, right? To play some "japanese games" just like BLUENIGHTLAGOON, right?

There is a HEX-editing fix to game itself (en-version, japan version require japan Windows) - this is a bug ingame (cause it wrong not possible to start en-applications on any Windows).
Also Verok's wrapper should solve this (he know about that bug).

Or general solution descried here (unicode settings i mention above):

some ways, there is also link to download Ms AppLocale tool.

Actually, I'm in the opposite position:
I changed my Windows 10 UI to English, because the Japanese interface was causing many very weird and obscure problems with a lot of utilities.
Whatever border you are sitting on, this operating system is trouble when it comes to dealing with languages it seems!
This has now been officially fixed in a patch, launch GOG Galaxy to get the update.
