After installation, two executables are available. One says "Blade Runner" and the other "Blade Runner (Restored Content)."

When running "Blade Runner (Restored Content)" for the first time, ScummVM popped up with a message that said it doesn't fully support this version. I played for a few minutes and did not notice any issues.

Does anyone happen to know what this restored content might be? I've enjoyed the original game a few times on CD-Rom, though was not aware there was content waiting to be restored.

Thanks!

Restored Content mode includes animations, sound clips, dialogue branches, some altered quest triggers and other various tidbits that ScummVM team managed to dig out and that were left unused in the original game.

Please note, that this should be considered a work in progress and saves between two modes are not compatible.

SVM Forums can probably provide more info :)

Or even better, to quote their original post:

We still have plans to complete the restored content version for the game, which is built from content and code segments that are already in the game’s resources but left unused or untriggered.

Here's a quote from the ScummVM forums:

Some of the stuff that are currently restored are:

- Talkie GPS

- Runciter's Voigt Kampff test

- Two extra (optional) meetings with Rachael (depends on player's actions)

- A few additional cutscenes, ie. landing at Howie's restaurant (won't always play), taking off from Runciter's, trains at underground meeting spot.

- More dialogue from McCoy and other characters for a few interactions

- The player can purchase animoids (depends on player's actions and they are expensive(!)

- The player can talk to Hasan about the scale to "complete" the side story for that clue

- A few more interactions with Dino Klein at the lab (and he won't go away after the first day)

- Some quality of life improvements in easy mode for the infamous rat puzzle and the Moraji sequence

- A few other small details (eg. clicking on a rotating object model in KIA, McCoy should say what it is)

There's quite a lot more to be restored though and work has been slow on the front lately due to other life priorities.

Hey all, I've noticed that GOG has made a helpful support item about how to access the Restored Content mode currently:
https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/360004386378-Blade-Runner-instructions-how-to-launch-with-Restored-Content-?product=gog

Note that as mentioned above:
1. The Restored Content mode is still work in progress, in the sense that there's more content to be restored.
2. Saved games from the Restored Content mode are not supposed to be compatible with the vanilla (original) game mode.
3. The fan made subtitles (which you can get from the ScummVM site, Games section) will work for the Restored Content mode, too.

If you try this mode and have feedback for the ScummVM team, you can comment in this forum, or the scummVM forum, or, if you have found a bug, you can open a ticket on the ScummVM bug tracker.

You guys are awesome, this release here would never have been possible without the hard work you've put into this game for the past few years. As I regularly played BR with the original discs, when I decided to try on my win7 system I used to use 3rd party installers and stuff, but after reading the feedback you gave me on another thread, I tried it with the use of ScummVM and decided to stick with it; so much easier and less work.

As I now know more about how this release came to be, my only regret is to not have purchased it via your affiliate link. I intend to correct that should I gift this game.

So thank you to all of you at ScummVM who made this release possible.

I've started playing in RC mode, I think I've seen extra dialog scenes. I notice too that when you get into the spinner the computer voice asks for your destination and calls each location out load to you as you roll your mouse over each one.
More extras details in this video I found.

Hi, those videos are mine and they are part of a subtitled Let's Play series that's currently on hiatus.

In fact that Let's Play project is how I got involved with the ScummVM Blade Runner engine and joined the team.

The "outtakes" episodes show alternate paths that are not part of the main LP, and starting from the second Outtakes video I've also started to include removed or untriggered content.

Not everything that was removed is shown in the videos as of yet, and also a few stuff from the videos have not yet been restored in the Restored Content Mode; they will be soon, I hope.

Wow! Well thanks for putting up the videos, I'm looking forward to seeing more unused content. I bought the 4 disc set when it was released and still have it. I also have the strategy guide, which explains how the decision tree works etc.
Many thanks!

I have only seen some pictures of the Strategy Guide (by BradyGames). I tried to find a copy to purchase but no luck.

Today I'm mostly wondering if it could help with improving the transcript / subtitles eg. clarifying the spelling of game-world specific terms like nu-sooch, or other obscure parts of the dialogue, and also whether it contained any hints or remnant stuff about removed content.
I really hope that you guys continue to work on this. I just played this game again for the first time in years. As much fun as I had, it only took me a few hours because I still remembered everything perfectly. The new content would allow me to play fresh, give me a blank slate. I'll gladly wait until you're done working on it, don't want to play it while it is still a work in progress. Keep up the good work guys!
Considering it's a work-in-progress, how will updates be posted?

Ismailov: Considering it's a work-in-progress, how will updates be posted?
Updates in the restored content mode will be built into newer versions of scummvm.
So, GOG version would get the updates by updating the scummvm version they use to launch the game.
Alternatively, someone could download the most recent version of scummvm and use that to launch Blade Runner.

Note, there's been little progress on the restored content mode since the release of 2.1.0 last November due to my actual job's workload (and related issues).

Work is expected to resume in February but I can't promise any dates for a next major update to the content or when the mode will be completely finished.

@PraetorianWolfie

I'm about to play this game for the first time, so should i just play it with the restored content? Is it stable or does it have any issues in this mode? Because it looks like i might as well just play it like this.
