I'm running Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia, and I can't get the game to start. Still poking around the forums before I post a question.

Scummvm has never worked out of the box for Linux. (At least not on my computers.) I haven't been able to figure out why. The workaround that I am about to test out with this game a very convoluted process, but it tends to work most of the time:

1. Download the Windows version and install it in Wine
2. Go into the game folder and start up Scummvm.exe (in the Scummvm folder)
3. you need to scan for the original game directory at the Scummvm startup menu. It should detect it and you can start it from there.

Again -- convoluted process, and I shouldn't have to resort to using Wine. All Scummvm games should just work out of the box if there's a native Linux release. Anyone who can help out with this would be much appreciated!

Same here. Linux Mint 18.3

apt install libsdl2-net-2.0-0 libpng16-16

resolves the first issues, but then, libc6 is required in version 2.27 (/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.27' not found) and AFAIK, you cannot install that easily. Thought about setting up a VM or a docker image, but I would very much appreciate simpler and less resource hungry approaches.
Running Kubuntu 19.04 here. A couple of missing libraries made it so the game wouldn't start. Instead of playing whack-a-mole by installing missing libraries until the game would run, I installed it using Lutris, and everything is working perfectly now.

But honestly, I'm not happy that GoG would release a game for Linux that requires a third-party installer to work.

Nope, not working with Lutris either. Error message everytime Lutris has finished downloading 1.2 GB: "File not found". Come on.

I downloaded the game to my drive from GOG. When Lutris prompts you to log into GOG, simply close the window and then point the installer to the downloaded file.

does the scummVM in ubuntu's repo work?
i have scummvm 2.0.0 installed and working...

no, you should never resort to using WINE when there is a linux version
The ScummVM download pages lists packages for a ton of various distros. If yours isn't there, try a Snap:

snapcraft.io/ scummvm

(Remove the spaces in the URL.)

Thanks @MountainMan! This is exactly the info you need to install it via lutris. I just didn't notice that the label changes from "installation folder" to "installer" after closing the window. I thought, I was forced to login via GOG.

Anyone who logged in and is wondering how to log off: I couldn't find a GUI way to log off. You can delete ~/.cache/lutris/.gog.token and ~/.cache/lutris/.gog.auth

However, I'm facing the same problems (Having chosen the GOG Linux runner and selecting the *.sh file, downloaded via GOG:

Running /home/…/Games/blade-runner/start.sh
Running Blade Runner (German)
Starting ScummVM
/home/…/Games/blade-runner/game/scummvm/scummvm_x86_64: error while loading shared libraries: libpng16.so.16: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Done.
Waiting on children
Exit with returncode 0

After `apt install libpng16-16`, there is still the glibc 2.27 problem

Running /home/…/Games/blade-runner/start.sh
Running Blade Runner (German)
Starting ScummVM
/home/…/Games/blade-runner/game/scummvm/scummvm_x86_64: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.27' not found (required by /home/…/Games/blade-runner/game/scummvm/scummvm_x86_64)

Installed fresh copies of Linux Mint 19.3 on my computers. ScummVM works fine now. Most of my games work fine. Not sure what the issue was. Admittedly, I was using old distros with a lot of nonsense installed on them. Some repo's were not from official sources. Main reasons why I upgraded.

Oh -- also, Blade Runner still doesn't work for me. I'll be having another go at the Lutris installer as soon as I figure out what MountainMan's talking about with the option to install from an already downloaded installer. (Getting the 'File not found' error also...)

Hello,
If scummVM is working fine now, could you try to add your Blade Runner game folder via the scummVM and launch Blade Runner that way?

Okay, so I got the game to run -- but the ONLY way I got it to run was with the flatpack version of ScummVM. DEB packages wouldn't install, and I mean NONE of them! The version in the software manager is 2.0.0. Guessing versions before 2.1.0 don't support Blade Runner.
Have to install games in Documents because the ScummVM flatpack is sandboxed, but I'm alright with that.
