LtJamesWatts: Thx for that interesting reply.
Does this have to do with getting the rights to enhance this one?
The deal isn't done yet and the enhanced edition was maybe annouced too early before deals were or are still to be closed?
Just asking and wondering.
Who knows? It's possible. While GOG reached out to us (the ScummVM team who worked on the open sourced Blade Runner engine) when they acquired the rights for digital distribution, they did not share details of their agreement with Alcon Interactive, nor did we ask -- we were just happy that the game would be again in official distribution, using our work no less, and respecting the open source license for it.

The only real issue here would be, that if the enhanced version was built based on our open source code for the engine, it would have to respect the open source license (GPLv2) and release the engine with any modifications as open source too. Some companies and platforms are not very... compatible with this idea. So it complicates things.

So sorry to hear this.

If its your open source code that they are using then you have the right to sue them I suppose or at least put some pressure on them?!...
Meaning, that they have to come forward officially with a good reason why they are doing it this way and then the press can jump on it and that could work into your advantage.

Thank you for the support. At this point, we can only hope that there won't be any... weird business and we will all avoid a frustrating situation for everyone.

They say they need more time and that is to be expected and understandable. Maybe there's some cause for concern, but they do have multiple other projects in the works in parallel.

Also what they want to do, especially if they are also reverse-engineering the game from scratch, I expect it will take a lot longer than a few months.

I completely understand that you don't want to get into trouble or go so far.
It was your rights I was making you aware of.
No need to thank me for the support buddy.
I always try to defend people (and smaller companies) who are being abused by the bigger ones.

Read this on a famous Dutch gamers website and which was posted today.
Hope Google Translate did work well enough to set it to English.

P.S.: Lookes like the translation went rather well.

I see it has Steam Achievements listed too.

Is this also coming to GOG?

I hope it comes to GOG as well but right now it looks like it is a Steam exclusive. Just like the Scumm VM version is exclusive to GOG.

You would probably have to approach Alcon about that.

It seems the two versions are very different in scope. The NDS EE will have some higher resolution assets and run at,. or up to, 60 fps, various bug fixes, but wont have any added cut content as far as I know. So, the two versions have a different focus. I think the nightdive version is primarily to bring it to the console players and have a release on Steam. But that is just my two cents. :)

Sometimes less is more.

After watching the trailer for the enhanced version, those heavily interpolated cutscenes are giving me very mixed feelings. It's combination of 60fps with cleaned up visuals that results in somewhat soap opera vibes with a dash of uncanny valley effect on top of it (e.g. the mega-ad at the beginning of trailer). Low-count voxel characters are also clashing with the upscaled backgrounds now, since all the compression/dithering is cleaned up.

I'm sure NDS did their best in terms of visual fidelity and restoration, but considering the source material is gone and they had to work with existing in-game assets, they went too far with all that cleaning/upscaling/interpolation machine-learning stuff. I never thought I would advocated for lower framerate in ANY game, but at least in case of cinematics here, the 30fps would have worked better (in terms of being more cinematic and more in line with the movie source).

After seeing that, all I need now is a good Insomnia deal on gog's BR and I'll be happy.
I also hope w/ this new version launching on Steam and all, that the Old version on GOG doesn't get delisted from here and all.
I just don't see enough enhancements to justify me buying this again. I certainly wont be buying it on Steam. I'll wait for some reviews.

Well, that surprised me. The EE just dropped on GOG.

I swear I heard from NDS when they first started the work that it would be on Steam only.

It is 50 percent off for owners of the original and comes bundled with the original if you don't own it.

Downloading right now. LOL $4.99 I can live with.
Appears that some of you were right about the delisting of the original :( So the only way to get the original is to get the EE now, although the EE is not much more expensive. Still... a weird situation.

Btw does it add the classic version automatically as separate entry to one's library, or is it an extra/bonus download or extra key like in case of Baldur's gate non-EE, etc? Thanks!
