So I played with my first char/class for a while and wanted to test another one, but unfortunately everytime I start another class, the old char save slot is overriden with the new one... -.-

It always just creates a "BIOMUTANT_AutoSave00.sav" file, overriding the old one. Has anyone experienced the same issue?

Workaround I've found is just renaming the save files myself. They're under C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Biomutant\Saved\SaveGames

Just putting it out there, before someone loses their savefiles they put hours in.

You don't see the New Slot at the bottom? (you may need to scroll down)

I do see the new slot. But that's the thing, I *only* see the new slot, no matter how many new games I've actually started. And after the new game is saved for the first time (right after the tutorial fight), the last class/char I've started is gone, overridden by the new game.

No idea but are you saying the new autosaves are ovveriding old character manual saves? Because that's a big problem.

I read somewhere there's supposed to be 5 or 6 save slots?

I think you might have a bug. That's not what it should look like. Hm. The location of the save games, that's not read only, is it?

Yes, that's what I'm trying to say.

No, it's not readOnly, it can create and manipulate save files.

I played around with the save files a bit, and also re-installed the game, and now somehow the game created "autosave01.sav". But still, even when loading that save file, the next time the game saves, it will ALWAYS override "autosave00.sav" (the first slot).

Also, starting a new class STILL automatically overrides "autosave00.sav". No idea how the "01.sav" file was created... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So I posted my issue on reddit, and apparently it was a misunderstanding in functionality and usability of the (auto) save functions.

The game only creates a permanent save file "SaveGame0*.sav" by manually saving and choosing a slot the first time, and not after starting a new game, where you fucking choose a new slot... ffs.

Then why the hell limit slot numbers anyway? Or are there no slot limits on PC/anymore?

From my experience that's how most autosaves work even when creating a new character unfortunately. The only game off the top of my head that doesn't conflict autosaves per character is new skyrim but oldrim used to.

Anyway sorry you lost data :(
When I explicitly have to choose a new save slot when starting a new game, I'm going to assume it fucking does anything, like creating a character save slot, in the least. And when the devs have someone skilled in usability, they may have even added separate save folder per class/character with each having their own save files.

But thank you for your help.

Btw, regarding usability: I can't mark my own post as solution, because that never happens that someone has an issue and finds the answer/solution themselves...

kju42: by manually saving
Wait, what? You didn't manually save? I thought that also your manual saves are gone and you have only one single autosave file there. Perhaps I could not comprehend someone would not manually save because I am the opposite. Especially when doing boring stuff like grinding for materials or something. "Picked a flower, better save. Don't want to be repeating this grind again. Wait, did I just save or not? Better save again just in case." Rob from Playstation Access gets me.
