Seems like THQ ignores achievements on GOG. AGAIN! I already got burned with Elex, no order from me anywhere, till this game does support them.

I still can't find out anywhere if the physical CE of the game is Steam, GOG or something else. Does anyone know?
Also, I don't understand why they won't allow disabling of motion blur. That's weird. Also, they do say GOG achievements will come, but not when - I'm guessing they won't be available at launch?

Achievements = Participation Trophies.
The game is its own reward, you should not need trophies to feel good about it.

Many reasons. They help to evaluate how many players have done what, so from a statistical perspective they give good info. Have you noticed that most games that have "Finished the game" achievement, it's very often under 50%?
Another what I like in achievements is when they encourage you to try things you have not thought about in the game. Kind of like gently guiding you to experiment with different mechanics. Things like "get three headshots when in slow motion while jumping from a ledge" and I think "wait, this is possible? So cool! I must try it!"
I like the story related achievements being secret so as to avoid spoilers, but non-story related secret achievements suck because they are not helping you to experiment and discover new game mechanics or story options. They are just "guess what I was thinking when making this game".
But of course there are those who want trophies for trophies' sake. And those who want to show off how many Platinum Trophies their PS account has. Nothing wrong with that, people are competitive. I just don't care about that aspect of gaming, but if someone does, go for it. I usually check the achievement list first, just to see if they are encouraging to test different playstyles and I try to check them out. Otherwise play normally as you would if achievements didn't exist. After beating the game, I check which achievements are left and how fun the game was if I am going to hunt for all the achievements. Most of the time I don't bother.
But yes, back in the day they didn't exist. I still play point and clicks. I grew up with them, I still like them. For point and clicks that have achievements I never check the list before playing. I like it when there are extra achievements from your typical weird point & click logic and veterans of p&c games know those. When that achievement pops up when you do something that you think is possible but probably won't advance the story you get that nice feeling of "wink wink nod nod" from the devs. Kinda like "yeah, you know your point and clicks, this is the good stuff from the 80's and 90's amirite?". But after I beat the game I also check if hunting for the missing achievements is going to be fun or work. If it's work, nah, don't care.

SarahGabriella: Not everyone plays online to have those statistics actually matter tho. Theyre for you to collect, not to gauge how many get which achievement.
Yeah, not gamers. But devs, for sure. If you are a developer and notice that your game, or someone else's game has average achievements of about 70% until half way of third act, but people who finish the game are only 20%, you can guess that either something in that third act is not fun, either a too hard boss or the story gets boring, or the game is simply too long. This helps you to develop a better game.
You might get data on your own games otherwise, but if you plan to do something similar as some other company, you might want to keep an eye on those achievement percentages.

Wow, what the actual fuck. I asked about them because they're a feature that I happen to like, and when / if they will arrive could be one factor in my purchasing considerations. This topic is about the FAQ, the FAQ mentions them, so this topic seemed like a relevant place. You don't like them, cool. But since you started down this path, let me try you own logic:
Why is gender setting such a big deal? We didnt have them back in the day. Just play the damn game.
See? Isn't this fun?
