Scrubwave: Yeah, how about citing some of that "lore"?
The real answer: devs are bigoted against blondes.
bobtheundeadfish: It probably goes much deeper than that.
I thoroughly expect to get banned, or have this post deleted or tampered with in some way or fashion.
The attached picture was posted on an image board of what the lead dev looks like, who is rumored to be a transvestite. Which is very similar to what Lady Arano looks like.

Anyone watch the "Game of Thrones" spoof, South Park created?
Looks like kenny wants to be a japanese princess, doesn't it?
Why pretend something is being hidden? Kiva is transsexual. I suppose they don't throw that in your face because frankly, it's irrelevent. From this, I strongly suspect we got the option to choose the pronoun 'they' for mechwarriors, a couple have trans or agenderism mentioned in their background text, and what I think is Kiva's personal hirable character is trangendered. But so what? High-tier kickstarter backers got to define mechwarriors, too. You don't have to call anyone 'they' or hire any characters you don't want to if it bothers you.
Kiva is also a skilled game designer responsible for bringing some depth (and some brutal combat) to the game, as you can see in posts on the official forums. I'm glad she was hired.
The blond hair thing was annoying, but the idea that the creators of Battletech were being racist against themselves is laughable. Like, 'Katherine Steiner-Davion is a pure-hearted virgin' laughable.
