Hmm, somehow one of my warriors died because of mydropship which got me from ma mission landed on top of him ... and this after my lance didnt really got scratched from some heavies.
The hexes you should not go because something big is gonna land there, are marked with (a little) red. This marking appears when you are moving a mech and you hover the cursor over one of the dangerous hexes.
That just happened to me.
I didn't notice the different color and warning when I moved one of my mech there.
The leopard landed and squashed the mech with its wingtip.
Had to reload and redo the mission ...
At least now I know about it :)
I almost got landed on by a Chinook helicopter in real life. It was night time with blowing snow and the downwash peppered me with ice and gravel. Fortunately the crew noticed me and landed at an alternate spot a short distance away.

With all their fancy sensors in the drop ship in game you would think they would be able to see friendly mechs and choose another landing spot.

Yea, mechs are taller than trees. I think the real reason for this is that vehicle-landings are hard-programmed in very simple scripts. The trigger for the landing and the location of the LZ is decided when the scenario is written.
