OneFiercePuppy: It wouldn't hurt to do a defragment on your hard drive, but I'm wondering if maybe your pagefile is using up too much space for the game to install? I know that the default Windows pagefile is equal to your system RAM, so if you've got 16GB RAM, and 30GB "free" on your hard drive, you could have almost half of that reserved for paging.

I don't do helpdesk so I'm just guessing, but you could go to System -> advanced system settings -> Advanced tab -> Performance section -> Settings -> Advanced tab and see how much space your pagefile is using.

But the better course of action, rather than mucking about with virtual memory, would be to just go ahead delete a few terabytes of your porn or move it to a removable disk and free up disk space on your primary partition. It's honestly not good to keep your hard drive near full.

Socratatus: It`s simple, you don`t have enough space. I know it LOOKS like you do, but you`re too close to the limit and hardrives often use more than it looks. One thing you learn with pcs, alwasy have more space than required, especially when the drive is getting towards full.

Get rid of something else and it`ll install.

brianharward: unfortunately if it were that simple I wouldn't have posted - and I since tried opening up ridiculous amounts of free space just to put an end to this suggestion (support sent a similar canned response) and still no luck

I also uninstalled and re-installed again so that it picked up the most recent update, to find the game still occupies roughly the same space, so I am confused as to why it would need a lot of space anyway

squid830: I think it probably uses up extra space during the installation - i.e. it decompresses files to a temp folder, then copies them across. So it's likely it takes up much more space during installation, most of which is then cleaned up afterwards - which means you may need up to twice the actual required space for installation. Unfortunately there's nothing for it but to free up space (or install on a larger HD, then copy the files across to your SSD afterward).

brianharward: yes I assume this as well, but unless it needs more than 3x the space the game itself occupies then another explanation is needed - unfortunately the process doesn't indicate how much space it needs, or give an option to use another drive for unpacking, etc.

OneFiercePuppy: The game requires 24.7GB of space when installed. That's how large my install directory is, less the saved games. So you're going to need 24.7GB (call it 25 for good measure) plus whatever space you need to hold the installer files; I don't have those handy, but you can do that arithmetic yourself. Then consider that during the install, you need to unpack files, so for the sake of certainty, assume an additional temporary amount of storage equal to the installed size, again.

This is not a support issue. This is a "your hard drive does not have enough free space" issue. Free up more space.

EDIT: just to cover my bases, that's 24.7 using k=1024. If you're reporting k=1000 then you'd need 26.55GB

If you are not doing so, make sure you are storing your installers and running them from your slow storage and not your SSD. Same with any other large downloads or hardly accessed files.

Move your page file to slow storage, temporary or permanently, to free up space. if you have 16-32gb of memory then you will have a 16-32gb page file.

Install the game to your slow storage and copy the came install over to your SSD. Will take a long time to complete but it's a work around.

brianharward: Somehow you quoted where I said I had more than 3x that amount free, but didn't read it maybe.

Skywatcher64: I ran into the same issue with The Wicher 3 update today. As I can not free up more space om my SSD (read I don't want to uninstall any other games as I am still playing them) I tried starting the game without the updates through the GOG Galaxy and that just worked fine. I miss out on any improvements to the game that the update may have brought but I don't mind, the game plays fine for me.

I keep getting this error when it tries to update. At first it was stuck at the original version I installed. I uninstalled re-installed and it was successfully updated to 1.0.3. Now there must be a new update because I'm getting the error again.

Error message: INSTALLATION FAILED: OUT OF SPACE (DRIVE)

Free space on installation drive: 30gb

Support: contacted and started a ticket 9 days ago but replies are super slow and unhelpful - I just did the re-install on my own due to not wanting to wait any longer. They never gave a solution.

Yes of course I have tried reboots, etc.

Is it possible I need to have it "refresh" and take a look to see there is more space than there was before (was as low as 8gb at one point). It seems like it refuses to acknowledge the space that is there.
