Is this game in good shape now? I've heard it was pretty buggy on release.

EDIT: Just one additional question. Do the devs care about the GOG version?

It is in good shape and wasnt that bad shape as some complained at start. Played campaign through 3 times and now with pilots and machines all like I want I just do missions. Alot of bad reviews came from people who expected it to be something else, it is no mech commander and although it is very near on Tabletop it has some different rules and weapons have different values.

Keep in mind, it IS slow loading but ok for me. UI sometimes is a bit sluggish, but I dont care, too. I do love the game, because it "feels" really good. Now I am mostly missing more of everything, things will repeat after some time, but I played it nearly 300 hrs so far, thats much more than any other game lately.

Galaxy Version is updated roughly the same time as Steam. Downloadables are added a few days later, because they are made and tested by GOG crew. And one of the few newer bigger games that offers Patches AND full download. Only bad thing for some, the first patches are missing, so people who downloaded it at release had to get the full version again.
I waited until just recently to play the game due to the reports of bugs and crashes with the early versions. I just started a campaign game with v1.1.1 and absolutely no issues so far. The game now has ultrawide support and this is working great on my 3440x1440 monitor. Loading times and UI response on my PC is not bad at all and more or less comparable with some other games.

Why do you ask if the devs care about the GOG version? As hohiro says above, the releases on GOG keep pace with those on Steam.

BTW - I'm playing the standalone (non-Galaxy) version.

It was very buggy on release and not well optimised. Be aware that some people, in their attempts to fanboy whiteknight will simply ignore these problems.

However, the latest patch has done a fair bit to fix much of these issues, including the slowness of loading, although it`s still a little slow in loading in my opinion.

As for the Devs, they have so far kept up with the few patches released. But Paradox has been very DRM-ing of its new release games in the past (they don`t like no DRM games), and even with battletech the pre-order skin cannot be installed unless you go to their website. Fortunately, Battletech wasn`t under paradox until very recently otherwise I doubtb it would`ve been released on GOG as a new release.

So don`t get too excited. They should stay true because they have an agreement with GOG, but be wary. paradox could easily change their minds.

It was and still is not very well optimised, but good playable and makes fun. I wouldnt call me a fanboy, but i will say it was not very buggy. Reading the bugfixes there werent many for a new release. And I did a full playthrough in release version without a problem or gamebreaking bugs. I got 2 crashes in over 200 hours of playtime till newest patch came out (and both were probably because of letting it run all day on my laptop and going to sleep mode and waking up again).
UPDATE: I'm not that far into the campaign game now (v1.1.1) and have had a few issues as follows:

- One CTD : This really annoys me as the game's crash reporting dialog pops up and asks for you to kindly send the crash reports to the devs. I'd be happy to if they would provide an email to send the crash reports to. I recently tried the only avenue that seems to be available and trhat is by opening a support ticket with Paradox, attaching the crash reports, and all I got in return was a ridiculously long troubleshooting list. I just wanted to make sure that the devs got the crash reports which I thought they would want to see. However, it looks like Paradox effectively block this from happening. Other game developers have automated crash reporting systems but this is sadly missing from BATTLETECH.
- Hangups : I have noted that on more than one occasion during battles that the combat system seems to hang preventing me from selecting a mech and assigning orders to it.
- FPS : During battles when the camera zooms in to follow a mech that is moving I have noted frequent drops in fps.

#1 Try to ask for the E-Mail on Paradox Battletech Forum?

#2 Djring battles or shortly before battle starts? I recognised, when you move and an enemy gets in sensor range you mostly can move all others and end the turn. If you get in sight of one enemy, combat starts instantly and you cant move the others. My solution is to always put the slowest mech in front of selection and let it move first and then the others.
If it is in battles maybe its a ram or videocard "too low" issue? Tried lowering video quality? I am playing with a gaming laptop with i7, 16GB and 1060 and dont have such issues in battles.

#3 Maybe lowering video quality a bit can help here, too. The thing that annoys me a bit when the camera moves in is that sometimes I just see rocks or a building if they are in between ...

Hope the game still is as much fun for you as it is for me ... guess the latter 2 problems can be solved if the game gets more optimised. Unity seems to be a bit sluggish itself with big rojects and well UI at least could really be faster :)
