It sometimes happens when you install old games in windows vista/7.

Some tips:
1- Never install it in the default folder. I would recommend creating a "Games" folder outside the main "program files (x86)".
2- Run the game in administrator mode.
3- Try compatibility mode, although in your case I wouldn't think it would solve anything...

Had the same problem, just run it in windows XP 2 compatibility mode and run it in administrator. Solved it for me atleast.

If the above does not work, go to your Battle Realms folder. Check to see if you have a folder named "Saved Games". If you do not, create one on your desktop and drag it in, and it should work fine.
