Thank you very much!

(anzi, grazie!)
I use a widescreen television for my monitor (1920 X 1080p) and the vanilla game scales to fit the screen but of course the resolution is horrid and the actual play screen seems tiny. (The bars to either side and underneath are huge)

Applying the widescreen mod gives a better resolution but it doesn't fill the screen. In fact it makes everything shift to the top left (menus, cut scenes and during game play) and only uses about two thirds of the screen no matter which resolution I set it at.

Would the GUI mod fix this or is there anything else I can do to resolve this?

No that'd be a problem with the widescreen mod itself, or your system or something. Not sure what to suggest.

Not really. From GUI mod introduction:

"It all started with Bigg's mod that allows you to change the resolution in all of the infinity engine games. Bigg's mod is great, but especially in Torment when you change the resolution, almost all of the UI elements and game effects are shown in the top-left area , and the rest of the UI is chopped up. So what this mod does is that it centers all these elements and enhances the UI with original game art to fit nicely any given resolution."

He said it made everything shift to the top left, not just the GUI. The GUI mod simply optimizes the placement of buttons and bars for higher resolutions.

Right, my bad then. Sorry ;)
I have the widescreen mod installed but not the GUI mod. If I install the GUI mod do I have to restart my game, or will my old saves still work?
I just installed 2.60 mod and it runs fine besides for the obvious problems.

I will wait for BG2.. actually I probably still have the discs.

Try the GUI mod in the first post too. And I recommend 1280x800 instead of 1920x1080.

Be sure to turn on 16 bit colour and sprite mirroring in the game's options... it'll fix the ugly fog of war. :P
The widescreen mod works for me at the 1280 X 768 resolution. No idea why I didn't try that one before or why it won't work with the others but, hey, looks great.

The new problem I'm having is that the game stops working when I try to enter doors.

It quit on me (Went to a black screen in the top left corner and stopped responding. Had to go to task manager and quit every time) I uninstalled the mod and I had no problems.
reinstalled and and it quit on me again when I tried to enter a door.

Tried a couple more times with the install, crash, uninstall no crash, install crash etc.

Thanks in advance for any ideas on how to fix it.
I'm guessing you are playing from a loaded game. Whenever you change the resolution the save games themselves will no longer work properly and cause alot of crashing. If you want ot continue using the mod you should probably start a new game.
Gah!

Oh well, I'm only a couple of hours in so I guess its not that big of a deal. Thanks mate!

Dominus: this is how I made it work on Windows XP

> patched with the TOSC international patch' from Bioware
http://www.bioware.com/games/tales_sword_coast/support/patches/

> Install Widescreen Mod
http://www.gibberlings3.net/widescreen/

> Desktop > Display Properties > Trobleshoot > Hardware Acceleration to 3rd level (fixes the glitches, fog, cursor etc problems)

works like a charm :)

Does this work with just bg1 gog version?

I clicked on several of those links and they do not seem to download anything. But, it seems like most of the post is in german or something so I cannot really read whats going on.

I am looking for a way to download something that lets me play bg1 gog version in a higher resolution. Or should I jsut wait till bg2 gog version comes out?

Everything you need is in the first post. It's very simple to do. If you can't find the download link for the widescreen mod on the mod's page, it's under the 'Download' section on the left -- click the 'Gibberlings Three' link.
However, you will see better results when BG2 arrives. It's still great if you're itching to play right now though.
