phanboy4: I hope all of you realize you can get working reliable widescreen to any resolution you want if you have a copy of Baldur's Gate 2.
Install BGTutu+BG2 widescreen patch=done.

hlhbk: Links? Also what is bgtutu?
BGTutu
http://www.pocketplane.net/mambo/index.php?option=content&task=blogcategory&id=143&Itemid=98
IE Widescreen mod (May not work directly on standard BG1, hence my Tutu suggestion)
http://www.gibberlings3.net/widescreen/

Works great, those mods + TutuGUI (Here) are how I last played through BG1.

Cool! I will try it tonight! Thanks man!
This is quite a nice idea, however i don't know if i can install Tutu on my BG II Italian version + BG GOG version... i'm sure there would be at least some parts in different languages in the interface (i'm just guessing, never used Tutu and never played the first BG).

I'm going to buy BG in the next days and hope I can give an hand with the patching effort (looking at how quick you guys are working there will be hardly need for any help... not that I'm complaining :D ).

Well, I bet BG2 will be coming soon to GOG, so you could also wait until then.
Here are the new locations for the gui patch:

old new
0x04f444 -> 0x04E9E4 (640)
0x04f3ec -> 0x04E98C (480)
0x045da62 -> 0x044288E (640)
0x045da64 -> 0x0442890 (480)

This information is stored in the Setup-TWM_GUI.tp2 file.

A simple find and replace for all occurances should suffice.

The patcher also checks the file size so we need to make sure it'll recognize our gog build. So find the line, in the same file as above, and replace it:

old:
REQUIRE_PREDICATE (FILE_SIZE ~BGMAIN2.EXE~ 5042223)

new:
REQUIRE_PREDICATE (FILE_SIZE ~BGMAIN2.EXE~ 4923392)

Note: this is still limited to the resolutions mentioned in the readme since they had to recreate the pictures for those resolutions.

Enjoy!
Cheers. I'll pack those up for the GUI mod's author.

By the way: Widescreen 2.60 with support for GOG-BG1 is now out.
Where?!?!
at the mod's web page.
Cool thanks. I hadnt noticed this in the rest of the thread. Call me blind. Thank you =D
Thanks for the project, that was fun.
Wow! So it works. Menus and such dont, but in the game it does. I put it at 1920x1200... big mistake lol. Slooooooooooooooooooooooooow

Edit: why the heck is my post spaced so oddly? Its normal in the post thread window.

Yeah, works great, although even at 1024x768 it seems kinda slow? Maybe not. And yeah, menus/movies are top left. I eagerly await compatibility with the GUI mod.
Screenshots attached for anyone interested.
Thanks tons guys. :)

Yeah I just busted out 1280x800. Worked great. Though its not far from the original res. 1440x900 was still to slow for me.

I
1280x800 is better, oops. Still too slow for me though. I'm running on integrated video until I get my video card replaced next week -- would that matter? The other hardware is much more powerful than the integrated video.

Edit: I get 30fps at 640x480, 15fps at 1280x800. :(

I would imagine so. Integrated graphics chips generally suck (in my opinion). I bet youll do better with your new card. Though im suspecting, this is just the way of the beast. Some times these older games just CRAWL at modern resolutions.
