Ok so I cleared out the Nashkel mines and I thought I talked to Berrun Ghastkill the Mayor of Nashkel and got some xp. I finnished "Investigating the Mines" BUT I still have the "Trouble in the Region" chapter 2 quest in my quest log. I am on chapter 3 now and I can't find Berrun Ghastkill anywhere in Nashkel. Any ideas where he may be? There was a pretty serious battle with an assassin there in the Nashkel streets, do you think he got snuffed? I s there a way to tell?

Thanks

OK maybe I need to resolve teh bandits first?

I was able to talk to him just after exiting the mines so you don't have to resolve the bandits first. I don't remember the assassins using area effect spells but maybe they could have taken him out and I'm not sure how to tell if he is dead. Sorry I wasn't too helpfull

You can use the console to spawn him if you can't locate him anywhere.

- In the game directory, open the Baldur.ini file with a text editor.

- Add the following line under [Game Options]:

Cheats=1

Run the game (moving your party to Nashkel if necessary) and press Ctrl+Tab to bring up the console - the code is

CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("berrun")
IIRC, Berrun leaves and doesn't show up for the rest of the game, after telling him that you solved the problem in the Nashkel Mines.

Unless you're playing Tutu (a mod that converts BG1's engine into BG2's), the journal entries remain, even once the quests are finished. This isn't a problem as its all done in chronological order as you go along in your playthrough.

And the region is still troubled, even after solving what was going on in the Nashkel Mines (simply talking to the Nashkel natives will tell you as much). So it really appears, to me, that you're on the right track. Now you should juss roleplay what you wanna do, where you wanna go (west, south, east) before you go back to Beregost and such.

Ok, I am following the bandit quest now. I am playing tutu and the quest is still in my log but I think I just talked to some NPC's out of order and it confused me. If it doesn't get resolved after the bandit thing plays out I will re-spawn him.

Thanks for the help!

You shouldn't worry about it. You're on the right track. Juss trust that this is a big game, and thus it'll be awhile before you finish the bandit quest. So take your time. Make sure you explore all the areas.
I've had the same problem - I've gone and done pretty much everything else in the game in the game that I could do, but Baldur's Gate itself is still not accessible... the mayor of Nashkel disappeared and isn't there after I come back from the mines with the notes from the chest at the bottom, and when I finally broke down and spawned him, he doesn't recognize that I have them (but I clearly do). If I leave Nashkel, he is gone again. It looks like I can't continue. Other than this, I've enjoyed playing so much more than I did almost 20 YEARS AGO! WOW! :)

Well, you could try glitching into Baldur's Gate with the Dimension Door spell. (I believe the glitch involves casting the spell and then switching zones before it resolves.)

Of course, there's no guarantee that the game will behave sensibly when you do things out of the intended order.

Do not use the glitch suggested, unless you are prepared to have your game irrevocably broken.

Your problem sounds like a variable didn't get set. When you killed Mulahey and collected the letters did chapter 3 trigger?

Also have you visited a set of forest areas west of Friendly Arm and defeated a mage boss at the bottom of the mines that those areas eventually lead to? If not, you're not supposed to be entering BG city yet anyway.

I might not remember it exactly, but you might also need to have Mulahey's symbol, not just the scrolls to finish the quest.
