This question may well be addressed somewhere in these forums but I haven't been able to find it, so my apologies for redundancy and here goes.

I've encountered a problem with a bug involving resurrection of dead party members. The character is not permanently dead, the portrait is grayed out but still there, and when taken to the temple for raising, the priest takes the gold and casts Raise Dead, but the character remains dead, portrait remains grayed out.

This happened once before, and reloading the game solved the problem. However, it has happened again with a different party member, and several attempts at reviving him have resulted in a significant loss of gold but no successful resurrection, while reloading the game has not improved the situation this time around.
.
Is there a known fix for this? I'd like to keep the character in the party at least for a while if i can, so would rather not just kick the corpse to the curb :)

Thanks.

Two things: have you any mods installed, and have you been editing your saved game?

No mods (yet, anyway) and no edits. I'm relatively new to playing and so it's been pretty basic so far.

Ok, just to make things clear, we are talking about original BG1 and not the enhanced version, right? It sounds like your save game is corrupt somehow -- that's why I asked if you'd been editing them. If you would like, you could zip up the save and attach it here (rename it to .jpg so the forum will accept it), and I'll take a look for you.

It's "Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga", purchased from Gog, not an enhanced version. At least, as far as I am aware!

I've attached the save as you suggested - if you can figure out what's happening and how to correct it, that'd be really great. Thanks for whatever you can do, anyway.

Your save game is corrupted. When I loaded it in, all characters were alive, but Imoen should have been dead because she had -1 health in the editor. I couldn't understand this, nor could I find why this was happening, so I reduced *all* characters to 1 health in the editor and loaded the game. Imoen, Ajantis and Dynaheir have corrupted characters, since they show health in-game as 13, 13, 15 respectively, instead of 1 like the rest. I have combed the save in Near Infinity and for the life of me I cannot see where this anomaly is hiding. My guess is that it's not actually in the characters, but some other flag. Something has gone awry, and it's a good bet that even if I had found the glitch and corrected it, it would likely rear its head again down the road. This discrepancy in the health data is why you were/are having issues with resurrection. I hate to say it, but it looks like you're going to have to wing it or scrap it. Sorry. :(

Maybe you can try to use the game cheats to resurrect the character.

If I remember correctly to activate them you had to change the file baldur.ini (make a backup copy of the file first) and add the line "Debug Mode = 1" under program options.
Then, ingame put the cursor over the dead character's portrait and CTRL + R.

It's not a perfect solution, but it might be worth a try. You can then donate the money it would've cost you or just throw it away so it's actually not cheating.

Well, thanks for looking at it for me! I figure I'll just start over with a new character, since it wasn't THAT far along. And hope the problem doesn't arise again :)

I'll give this a try then. The currently dead character can't get much deader, after all :) Thanks for the suggestion.

Edit - Alas, it didn't have any effect and the character remains dead but not gone. Thanks again though for the suggestion.
