Hello!

So after playing the Brood War and Age of Empires re-masters, a thought occured to me. What would you folks think if the graphics in these games were re-done with more detail? And just like the other games I mentioned, the change would be optional.

I think it would be a great idea, since the original BG/BG2 were made for standard definition CRTs. It looks like Beamdog just up-res'd the graphics and called it a day. I'm not sure if Beamdog is up to the task, so maybe this would be better suited for the team who did AoE, or perhaps even some modders.

Thanks for replying.

I sometimes daydream about how it would have been if Obsidian had got the IP and remastered the Infinity engine games in the Unity engine.

Yeah, nothing fills you with nostalgia like endless loading screens.

I was thinking more along the lines of "not Beamdog".

I think they've done a bang up job for a group of professional YouTubers...

My definition of "bang up" is probably the inverse, though I suspect the irony is thick there.

I like the Infinity Engine and SoD proved they are more than capable of delivering good graphics from it.

I do not like Unity all that much, all things considered.

I know I am probably jaded and judgemental, but I dislike the Unity engine. That is all.

The enhanced editions delivered nothing that the original BG2 didn't have graphics-wise, other than the gimmicky zoom feature. You can zoom in to *terrible* sprites or zoom out so you can't play the damn game. The only way to play is to find the middle ground that came with the original.

And none of the enormous catalog of mods for the Infinity Engine games would work at all with the Unity engine. No point in that.

I did. Doesn't make the idea of dumping 20 years of mods for the Unity engine any better.

Clearly my post went way over your head.

The Zoon was made so they can make the ports to smaller mobile devices. Nothing more nothng less.
It orignally wasn't meant to have it. The Zoom helps you when you are playing it on the smaller screen

I agree with astrobryguy. Unity is a very clunky engine to mod, unless the developers specifically make it so, when developing said game. You were just not clear what you wanted to say.You said nothing about the specifics, so of course his response to you makes sense

I also dislike the fact that Unity gets shoved as a "be-all-end-all" engine, just because one company did a thing with it.
Baldur's Gate enjoyed its thrive thanks to not only its gameplay, but a sheer number of modifications the community provided, which includes by absolute favourite: The trilogy mod, where you can play the whole saga together.as one big game

But that is just my two cents and my opinion.

I agree. If anything they should develop their own engine, and released a toolkit for ir, like BioWare did, until EA forced them to use Frostbite in their newer titles

Both Bioware's Aurora and Infinity Engine are easy to make mods for.
Heck even Witcher 1 ran on A modified engine from BioWare (Aurora)

I made my thoughts quite clear. I refer you to the above statement.
