GOG version doesn't change saves format. As long as you played your old BG installation fully patched, you should be able to just copy 'save' folder and play.

However, if you used any mods with old installation, bear in mind that you would have to install them in the same order.
Thanks for the info.Thats exactly what I needed to know.Appreciate the response.
For all those who are under Windows 7 64bits remember due the windows UAC protection, it generates a "virtual Storage" for non administrative enabled applications, so you can find your saves, or simply put them over "Users\"Machine Name"\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Baldurs Gate II\save"

Took me a while to find this out so im posting it.

Doesn't this only happen when you install the game to the default "Program Files" folder? You should generally avoid installing ANY games there because of possible errors or weird behaviours. Just install to C:\Games or something similar...
I have MANY saved games from BG1 (with TotSC installed, so theoretically fully patched). I bought the GOG version so that I didn't have to fiddle with getting BG to install on XP or Windows 7. I moved my saved games to the Gog/BG/Save folder. They show up in the saved game screen. However, selecting one to load causes the game to crash to a small, completely black window on my desktop. The taskbar shows the program is still running, but won't respond. I have to use Task Manager to end the program.
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. As I recall, the last time I played this game was on a Windows 98SE machine, so the saved games would have been created in that OS.
Since I'm not seeing the single player saved game I started with the GoG version prior to attempting the import, does that mean they're stored elsewhere?

Yes, they will be where Paladrink said.
But listen to Grombart and do yourself a favour, uninstall the game, reboot the computer & install in C:\Games\Baldur's Gate. (by clicking on options in the GoG installer)
Avoid installing old games in C:\Program Files (x86)......
