Hickory: They are not vital, but you will miss quests from (in no particular order): Jaheira, Keldorn, Mazzy, Valygar, Nalia, Anomen, Cernd, Jan, Korgan. I don't think I've missed anybody. Most quests, with the exception of Jaheira, are quite short. Romances are not an issue if you don't intend to have any Bioware npcs. No areas, except certain npc residences, are inaccessible, but some will be missing content.

He was talking about BG2. Notice that Sarisio said he was asking 'mostly for BG2', and that Hickory didn't mention any BG1 NPCs. If he'd been including about the (simpler) quests you get when you invite some BG1 NPCs into the party, then he missed rather more than just Minsc!

On the other hand, the UB quest for Minsc is good, and I recommend installing on any playthrough other than the completely vanilla (or those where you have no plans to take Minsc, of course).
