Decided to try the original version in the solo playthrough. However, when i start it, it says that it only works on English operating systems (I am using the CD version). Is there an easy way to bypass this? I am not very eager to change system language and all that, as that will probably mess up the ø,æ and å-keys :P Using W7 64-bit. It says in the Baldur's Gate config that it works on any region, still doesn't work. Alternatively, I could just purchase the GOG-version if that is a better solution.

Well, I had a similar problem with the BG2 expansion (it said it would only work on American OSes). Try installing the patch, it worked for me. You can find it here:

I made a fighter-mage multiclass. It has 18/96 strength, 18 intelligence and 18 constitution, but dexterity and wisdom was pretty low, is it a good build?

One problem i encountered is that mage spells are disabled when wearing armor, so I have to take it off when casting spells, and not using armor is risky when playing solo :P Is there a way around this? (for example: a ring that allows mages to wear armor etc)

How on earth did you get 19/96 Strength at character creation? That is an invalid stat. Are you sure you don't mean 18/96?

For a fighter/mage you absolutely want DEX at maximum, because it increases your ranged THAC0 and armour, and also your reaction time. STR & CON are not quite so important to a multiclass as a pure fighter, and you could afford to drop each by a couple of points to bolster your DEX. Not without cheating or mods. If you use the tweak pack there is an option to allow spellcasting in armour, but at a scaling failure rate, depending on what type of armour. Eventually, when you have the money, you should invest in the Robe of Vecna from Adventurer's Mart extra vendor (assuming you're playing BG2).

I will not install any tweaks/mods to allow spellcasting in armor, as I play most games completely modless. The game I'm playing solo at the moment is BG1. I mostly play BG2 with a normal party, and playing through BG1 with one character is a kind of side-project. I will import the solo-character from BG1 into BG2 and attempt it solo when I finish BG1.

Yes. Wisdom has absolutely no bearing for a fighter/mage. It is only of any concern if you want to regularly use the Limited Wish or Wish spells, but even then there are potions that will raise your WIS to 18 for those moments. Even that is a moot point, since you're playing BG1. So forget about WIS... and CHA. Since you're not playing BG2, my advice about the Robe of Vecna is also moot. Your best armour (mage-wise) is the appropriate Robe of Good/Neutral/Evil Magi, for permanent apparel. Otherwise you'll have to risk the continual removal of any armour, and in BG1 that is a risk, because the game unpauses when you use the inventory, unless you're using TuTu / BGT of course.

I have now reached level 7 in both classes on my fighter/mage-multiclass. It seems that i have stopped gaining xp now, both classes have 80.500 xp each, totalling 161.000. Is this the xp cap? I do not know if a level 7 fighter/mage is able to beat the final boss. I have made it to chapter 7 quite smoothly though.

Yes, 161,000 is the XP cap for BG1 with TotSC installed -- it's 89,000 without. A level 7/7 fighter mage will do just fine against Sarevok and his cronies. Though if you haven't done a solo run before, don't be surprised if a few reloads are necessary.

Just finished the solo-playthrough of BG1! Final boss battle sure was hard, but finally pulled it off after trying a lot of different tactics.

I will start playing BG2 solo now.Hopefully, it is also possible to complete solo with a fighter/mage, without a thief. Had some trouble early in BG1, with some of the Totsc-content, but not much after that. Will also try to get that robe of Vecna as quickly as possible.

The three last times i have leveled up i have gotten 1,2 and 1 extra hp on level up. Why does that happen? My constitution is 19. Is the game punishing me for using rest until healed too much? (i literally sleep for over a month everytime i rest) :P I do currently have 121 hp on my 12/10 fighter/mage though, ain't too bad. I also bought the robe of Vecna, and it was a good purchase indeed.

Your HP on level up stops being a die roll +CON bonus at level 9. After that you will get a fixed amount. For fighters this is +3, and for mages this is +1 per level. Because you have a dual class F/M, your HP goes up 1.5 per level, resulting in the 1, 2, 1 you are seeing.

I finished Shadows Of Amn some days ago, and i have now made it to the final boss-fight of Throne Of Bhaal (a final-save was created, so i guess it is the final boss). The difficulty was varied through TOB, but this boss-fight is immensely difficult. I managed to survive 3 stages of the battle after trying various different tactics, and having some luck. However, there was some powerful monsters to be defeated before advancing to the next stage of the battle, a solar, and some other stuff that mauled my planetar after seconds. I have not gotten any farther than this.

I need advice on some good tactics for the final showdown. I have a level 24/20 fighter/mage that can't level any further, and i have two proficiency points in bows, long swords, flails, and crossbows. Usually using Blackrazor or fully upgraded Flail Of Ages and Shield Of Balduran.

Was finally able to defeat the final boss of Throne of Bhaal after countless tries, slightly altering tactics every time until it finally worked was the key to success. It was without doubt the hardest battle i have fought in all of BG.

What is the next step? Icewind Dale or Neverwinter Nights? I have played some IWD, and gotten to chapter 2 twice. Would probably be interesting trying to solo that too, but it is probably a lot harder. I have never played NWN, is it excellent for a hardcore BG-fan?

Huh. Each to his own. When I played I found the BG1 end fight the hardest in the game, followed by some of the other fights in ToB. I found the final boss of ToB not to be too hard: it needed a few reloads, but I didn't have too much trouble. I guess it's just a case of what party you have.
