I'm currently playing a predominately good party with Branwen (True Neutral) as my cleric, my rep is 20+ and she's starting to complain like the evil npcs do when it gets too high. My question is do neutral characters ever leave your party due to reputation? I know evil ones do around 16 or 18.

I haven't been able to find a straight answer for this. Thanks.

It's my understanding that they won't for good rep. But they'll complain constantly. They may leave if your rep hits 1 or so, but I'm not entirely sure on that. From a game perspective, it wouldn't make sense if they did due to being "middle of the road" alignment wise. But who knows, the game obviously doesn't' want you to be evil so that could be another way to punish you.
You're right. It looks like the max rep is 20. I thought I was higher at the time I posted but I was only at 19. She didn't leave at 20, so that answers that question.

I ended up dumping her for the inferior Yeslick in the Cloakwood mines just because she was annoying me anyway. :D

If the neutral NPC stays in your party long enough after they start to complain about your 19+ rep, once you kick them out they won't rejoin you, they'll just disappear. That's what happened to me when I was using Branwen. If your rep gets LOW enough though, they will quit just like a good NPC, but I think the bar is lower, at like 3 or 4.

Good to know. I noticed she was rather put out when I removed her and ran off immediately. I'm kinda sad about that cause I want her back. Not even sure it's possible to get Yeslick's multi-class cleric level up to 7 for level 4 spells without hitting the XP cap. :(
With ToSC Yeslick maxes out at 7 fighter / 7 cleric, so he does get some level 4 spells but only two of them. He can double as a front-line fighter to make up for it, and is a lot tougher than Branwen. He's probably my favorite of the NPCs though, and it's such a shame that there aren't any similar dwarves in BG2, only Korgan (ugh).

Ah that's good! I'm starting to not miss Branwen anymore, I like Yeslick's occasional comments. And yes it is nice to have him up on the front-line, especially after giving him gauntlets of ogre strength, he can nearly hold his own as well as Minsc now.

Viconia's a good cleric solution. It honestly makes no sense that she's evil in-game. She appeals for help due to being persecuted, she politely requests to join you, and one of her messages when you kick her out is "You've been so nice to me, and have shown me that not all surface dwellers are bad." Hardly evil actions.

Luckily, she automatically lowers your rep by two when you pick her up, so if you're at 19 or so, you can keep her around as long as you avoid doing any goody goody actions afterwards.

She was my first choice and I agree about her alignment, it's nice in BG2 that you can get her to change alignments (if I remember correctly, it's been years). But for this game I decided to get rid of her to keep to the "good" party i'm trying to role play. She certainly wasn't that polite to me when i removed her, nor her comments when she started complaining. She said something about me being surface scum and returning to the underdark. In fact every single npc i've dropped from the party has said something horrible to me.. :D

Probably due to your reputation. I think I was about 11-ish when I got rid of her. Honestly, unless you're only taking good characters, it's kind of annoying to play super high reputation. Neutral or Evil will constantly whine and complain which gets really, really grating after awhile.

Sadly, you can "game" the reputation system really easily in BG1 (you might in BG2 but I can't remember). Kill a neutral random "townsperson" without being seen and get an instant -10 to reputation with no repercussions. Then you can raise it back up by donating to temples. It really undermines the system when you can easily corrupt it.
how can i get mince to join my band? i have evil ccharacters. mince wont even talk to me. how do i get rid of xzar and montoron
Click on your Record tab (the one with the head)
Reform Party & kick them out.
Don't forget to take all their gear first.
I hate these filthy neutrals! With enemies you know where they stand, but with neutrals? Who knows! It sickens me.
