Bandoid: So am I reading this right? Is this game not able to be played in resolutions higher than 640x480
avatar
jcompton: That is how the original BG, and Planescape: Torment were shipped and officially remained, yes. It sounds like people are saying that GOG's version, like the original, is only playable at 640x480.
The other Infinity titles (BG2 and the two Icewind Dales) either shipped with higher resolutions available, or were officially patched later to support a range. Note that even then the resolutions are fixed selections (and tend to be 4:3) so the widescreen mods are still useful if you want to use 1920x1080, 1024x600, and other now-common desktop/laptop resolutions.
I don't know man, Baldurs gate along with Planescape Torment both look just fine on my computer without any modding...maybe my monitor is just special.

thelovebat: Just curious, what's the point of modding such a great game as this? Granted, I just bought it and started playing it for the very first time today, but I'm just curious why people would want to mod it. Another small question, what's the point of a widescreen patch anyway? Does it serve some purpose, or make the aspect ratio better? I say that because Baldurs Gate looks just fine on my 1080p monitor.
I totally agree. I prefer the closer view with the standard resolution and it looks fine on my 1680/1050 res.
JCompton... jcompton... your name sounds so familiar. Who are you, another IE modder? Maybe planetbaldursgate?

Quite possible; is it a CRT? CRTs do a much better job of scaling pixels.

Actually, its a Samsung LED monitor, around 26-27 inches or so. Display quality is pretty much excellent with every game I play, which I'm very happy about since this is my first computer I've ever owned.

Yeah, he's the author of the Kelsey NPC mod (and, more recently, producer of the commercial "The Broken Hourglass" stand-alone game).

There are some unofficial bug fixes for BG series.
