So while healing up my group with Jaheira before going resting, I accidentally cast Charm on my main character.

Also, I saved right after.

Also, I use a single save game slot.

(I know...)

Now, when Charm wears off, my main character turns hostile.

So what do I do now? I'm fairly deep in the storyline (for the first time), so starting over is not really an option ):

Check your auto save. There should be one every time you enter a new area

I tried it, nothing happend. Vanilla Baldur's Gate 1 with Baldurdash's fixpack. No BG2 engine. Anyway, you can try maybe reforming your party, leave your char inside a building and the rest of the party outside. Or even leave area. Maybe it works, can't check because I can't reproduce. If you don't have the fixpack maybe try installing it.

These old games aren't very friendly towards using only one save slot :) All kinds of things can go wrong. Some guides specifically point out "save often and in different slots".

Yes I tried to do it in BG1 Tutu & with BG2 & couldn't get it either.
What game are you playing, BG1, BG1 with BG2 engine, or BG2?

Ah yeah, forgot to mention that. I also messed my autosave up (left area without thinking). ):

The fixpack didn't help. I've also tried things like the first advice, maybe I'll try to play around a bit more..

Lesson learned.

Vanilla BG1 I bought here. And now the fixpack mentioned above.

Btw, I've tried a savegame editor called Sword Coast Keeper, and managed to remove the Charm affects (for some reason my character had 2 of them + the Charm icon also appeared as a distinct affect). I've also tried to remove only 1 or 2 in every combination, and also to remove all affects, but either Charm is not removed or my character still turns hostile.
From a quick google search, looks like this is a known bug, though I didn't find a definitive solution. Charming back an already charmed character makes it hostile. Someone suggested enabling and using CTRL+R to heal the char, they say it works on NPCs. Failing that, I found [url=http://readme.spellholdstudios.net/BGTTweakReadme.htm]http://readme.spellholdstudios.net/BGTTweakReadme.htm , see point 23. Download here.

Before doing anything make a backup of the entire game folder, not just the saves. Installing some mods can make the save unusable.

I would just replay from the last autosave though, seems faster.
This doesn't look like a vanilla BG mod, but rather something on top of some BG1 content in BG2 engine magic. Do you think I might be able to import my BG1 save into this?

I have no healthy autosave either, so I'm starting to make peace with starting the game over from the beginning.

I really appreciate your efforts, though.

You're right, it's not for vanilla, sorry. No idea if the savegame would work, probably not, the difference is pretty big. Maybe attach the save, I'll check if it does the same in my game. All I can think of is the information about the char's reaction to your party should be stored somewhere. So get one save where the char is friendly, one where it's hostile, compare the two, see if you can make sense of it and modify in a hex editor. If you don't know how to do that attach the save and I'll try.
Something else I found, once your char becomes hostile charm him back to friendly, remove everyone from party, maybe leave area, wait for the effects to wear off, come back, see what happens. Or some such combination. Turn AI off and remove all weapons when you try that so they don't kill eachother.

I thought of that, but I can't seem to save the game once it's hostile.

I've spent some time monkeying around like that, but no dice so far.

Anyway, here's the save game:

Got it. Sorry, but that is damn funny. You're turning hostile towards yourself. Can't save because there are "monsters about". Which, incidently, fits the story somehow. I can hear the town crier: "Hear ye, hear ye, news from the coast! Hero gone emo, slashes wrists! Free gear in the woods!"

In the "good ol' days" there were memory editors about, I'll see if I can come up with anything.

EDIT:
All right, solved it. Basically enable cheats and cheat keys, use ctrl+K to kick your char out, speak to your char twice, it'll be back in, all good. I didn't check all your stats/xp/gold, but it seems good, I traveled to an inn, fought some mobs on the way, rested, nothing bad happened.

Detailed for anyone else stumbling upon this:

1. Enable cheats
Modify "baldur.ini", under [Game Options] add a line saying
Cheats=1

2. Enable cheat keys
Start the game, load your save, press CTRL+TAB to open the console. Type
CLUAConsole:EnableCheatKeys()
press enter, CTRL+TAB to close the console.

3. Select char, press CTRL+K, it should now be kicked out of the party. Talk to char once, it should bring up the dialogue saying something like "fine, you don't want my emoness, I'm out", end dialogue. Talk to char again, accept it back in your party.

Awesome, totally works! Thanks!
