I am playing BG2 and I am having an incredible amount of fun

But I have a question about the lore

Who is displayed on the logo of BG2?

Waukeen. Deity of Trade etc.

It's not Waukeen at all. It's Ellesime, and the bottom image represents the titled "shadow" (of Amn)

Well, there is some resemblance to Waukeen:

Which could fit, because she's a very prominent deity in Amn. Although that would raise the question of what the shadow side represents. Ellesime also makes a lot of sense, given her role in the story. I've heard some people say the "shadow" side of the image could represent Bohdi (Ellesime and Bohdi representing the light and dark influences on Irenicus). It could also be the surface elves and the drow; the Shadow Thieves and the Vampires (I wouldn't associate the Shadow Thieves with "good", though -- they're the lesser of two evils), or just the general light vs. dark nature of so many parts of your journey, not to mention your own destiny. And on that note, the logo slightly resembles a coin too -- and if you've read the in-game book The History of the Fateful Coin, you'll understand the significance of that too (you are most definitely a coin that landed on-edge).

Personally, I don't think the figures represent any specific person or deity. It's an artistic representation of many different elements from the game.

Baldur's Gate 2 is not about Waukeen -- Waukeen is incidental -- it is about Jon Irenicus (who could represent the "shadow" on the land (Amn)) and that directly involves the queen of the elves -- Irenicus is an elf, and was formerly the queen's lover. It makes absolute sense to represent those two and simply NO sense to represent some minor god who has no part in the story, other than the name of the market area.

Edit: Oh, and the logo does not resemble a coin in the least. That's a Beamdog embellishment.

Athkatla is the City of Coin. Their number 1 deity is Waukeen - the goddess of trade and commerce. It is also a pilgrimage site for followers of Waukeen. Hence why they have a promenade named after Waukeen.

Pretty sure it is Waukeen in that pic the OP posted. It symbolizes Amn in almost every aspect.

You're wrong.

It certainly much more closely resembles images of Waukeen in Forgotten Realms publications than it does the one in-game image of Ellesime. In particular, as can be observed from the above, it is standard for Waukeen to be depicted in profile (presumably to resemble a coin, in accordance with her portfolio). It's not exactly the same, and Waukeen isn't (I think) usually depicted with two sort-of-reflected heads as in the logo, but based purely on resemblence Waukeen looks like a plausible suggestion, more so than Ellesime. I think Stig79's explanations about the symbolism make sense as well (more than Hickory's about the significance about Ellesime), though again it's not conclusive.

It is not grasping when I tie my argument into the Lore, the Setting, The Plot, and the Title of the game.

But you didn't. You posited a vague connection with a minor deity, offered internet-found stylised images of Waukeen, *not* original BG art, as 'proof', which it most certainly is not.

On the other hand, I offered original Baldur's Gate artwork which clearly shows Ellesime with pointed headdress and feathers, and an original icon image depicting a female wearing the very same pointed headdress and feathers, below which is a shadowy figure (which you have failed to explain). Moreover, nobody is going to convince me that the designers and artists of BG bewilderingly decided to make said minor deity an icon of the game. I'm not going to go on. You're wrong, it's as simple as that.

While on the linked images Elessime does look more similar, I'm pretty sure it's Waukeen. She's just higher caliber, and makes more sense.
If someone wants to know for sure, the design docs should be at Beamdog's disposal, and they might answer the request.
