plan99: Hmm, interesting. May or may not be based on that, but he story I told, though, was given me as purely hypothetical.
Which devalues it to zero, doesn't it? In a hypothetical story, you can hypothetically justfy any kind of action.

Fine, we'll call it a parable. I'm not replying about this again, it's not what this thread is about.

plan99: Thanks for your input. The BBB idea sounds interesting and I'll check into that. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem there're enough people interested in doing anything *outside* of GOG for a collective boycott (a few...).

Valerie.377: You can start small. Sometimes, all it takes is a small snowball to get an avalanche going.
Yeah, I know. I just seem to be the one that has to get that snowball going and I've got so many things I'm dealing with (personal and health) that it's all I've been able to do to keep up with what I *have* done. I hadn't meant to put this out there (not your fault), but what I do is going to be very slow going. If anyone wants to help with the snowball, I'd be very happy for any help.

<wink> Thank you for the encouragement. Don't ever change that attitude. :)
Ive shared my thoughts on this horrible company, and also refuse to purchase their products.. In Steam as well, as Im frustrated the Original Saga is no longer available, and all you can buy is this
horrible cash in, who then changed several aspects of the game.. Ill never purchase from Beamdog, and never have! Im sick of this PC crap being shoved down our throats at every turn.. Not to mention, they took several beloved games, and used them to make a name for themselves, as opposed to having any talent to call their own!

I was lucky that I purchased an Infinity bundle, before the EE stuff was all that were available, but I can see how being forced to buy from another company is unacceptable to some..

If someone is interested, I have a GOG redeem code for the original edition of Baldur's Gate, just PM for it, please. (Needless to say: first come, first served.)

jsidhu762: I apologize for being Mr.Negative, but I don't think the classics will be unbundled. Contracts are the stone cold rules of business, and when it comes to this particular subject, GoG is probably bound by one. From a business side, it's probably better for them to put up with our complaining than it is to risk a lawsuit.

With that said, I think Beamdog getting their EE bundled with the classics is a slimey, scum-ball thing to do.

plan99: No problem, since you stated what you thought in a mature way. I would agree with what you said, assuming Beamdog is lying about GOG doing the bundling... just because. Actually, that brings up an interesting point that, yes, GOG is doing the bundling, but are they doing it all by themselves (unlikely) as Beamdog seemed to be implying or are they doing it because Hasbro told them to (likely)?

In any case, we (and GOG) can still try to show that it would be better for all (well, maybe not Beamdog, lol) if the classics were sold separately, even if Beamdog still include them as bonuses in their version, as well.

Beamdog just made a statement about it. This statement + the reply someone posted from GoG support earlier, where GoG pretty much says they had to go with what the seller wanted or not sell the game at all....

Yeah. It was Beamdog all along. Hasbro was not involved.

Thanks for the update. It's worth noting that Hasbro still owns the rights and 'What Hasbro owneth, Hasbro can taketh away", lol.

http://imgh.us/Julius.png The lying has been going on on their own forums as well.
As someone who knows this industry pretty well, all the shots are called by Hasbro. The publishers are always in control, always in charge. The old journalistic adage "follow the money" hasn't stopped being true.

Even if it was Beamdog who spoke to GOG there is a zero percent chance it didn't come from Harasbo. They have ownership. Literal ownership. Beamdog don't even have the legal authority to make that decision.

I agree it's a shame there are no legal avenues to get the GOG repacks of these classics.

Thank you for clearing that up. Most of us thought that was probably the case.

While you can't legally get the classics on GOG, it would be appreciated if you could send a letter to Hasbro to help fix that problem. The more the merrier!

Also, what is your take on what Valerie.377 said here: https://www.gog.com/forum/baldurs_gate_series/info_on_possibly_getting_the_classics_unbundled/post41

Beamdog said GoG approached them about the bundling. Not the other way around.

Re-read what I wrote. I didn't suggest GOG contacted Beamdog. I suggest Beamdog would not approach GOG without first having been given authority & instruction by Hasbro.

It might be Beamdog asked Hasbro for permission rather than Hasbro giving Beamdog instruction, we can only speculate on that. But the decision is Hasbro's alone.

It is still weird. The classics were outselling the EEs by a mile at the time. So Hasbro would be getting income from both the classics and the EEs. GoG would be getting the same. The only one who really benefited from the bundling is Beamdog. Who is now getting the income from both versions.

What price were they selling the classics for, what price the EE versions? Additionally, by removing the classic versions they might be pushing a lot of new sales to the EE versions with higher profitability.
