I press ctrl+tab but noting happens. I have no hot keys set up that I know of in the config. I've tried other methods in other topics but they don't seem to work.

BG1 or BG2? If BG2, try CTRL+Space Bar.

If BG1, then make sure you have the following line in your baldur.ini file in the [Game Options] heading (it can be found in your main BG1 folder):

Cheats=1

As old as this is, I'm actually having difficulty with this myself. I cannot seem to get the console working. Is there a specific hot key that needs to be set to allow access? For instance, Dialog = [blank] right now. But if that's what I need to set in order to access console, then I can just as easily put the appropriate command key.

But when I edit the .ini I've place DebugMode=1 in Game Options. And put Cheats=1 in it as well, just in case. If I don't require Cheats=1 after debug mode is enabled, then that could be the issue, however I've tried that with DebugMode placed under Program Options, and then replaced it under Game Options. Neither seem to work with this new GOG interface.

Or at least....not for me. Which would make sense since my computer secretly plots how to make my life a steaming pile of crap.

So is there another way? Or should I try to reinstall it?

I assume it's BG2 you're talking about here. If so, it should go under the [Program Options] heading and it's:

Debug Mode=1

Note the space between Debug and Mode. I see in your post you entered DebugMode=1, which is incorrect (assuming you did it the same way in the .ini file) It's case and space sensitive.

*edit* After you get that into your .ini file, you just need to press CTRL+Space to open the console.

No, it's BG + (ToSC).

Haven't done it with BG2 yet.

That's what I meant. I've tried both. Debug Mode=1, DebugMode=1, Cheats=1, Cheats = 1,
even put them under Game and Program options. Whatever it is, it's not working. This is in fact the GOG downloadable version, and not the disc version. Which is why it's probably not working. When I look inside the .ini it looks a little different from the one I'm used to, for example. That, or it could be that I need to run it and save it as admin? But I've tried that too....:-/

Worse comes to worse, I guess I'll just buy the disc version.

Are you running Win7/Vista?
In such cases files like config and saves may be stored and read from different location.

I have the GOG version of BG+TotSC installed on my system. Win7 pro 64 bit. The line is:

[Game Options]
Cheats=1

That's exactly what's in my baldur.ini file. I installed the game as admin, and always run it as admin. No mods installed on that game (I have BG2+ToB with BGT installed on that). In-game, I can access the console by pressing CTRL+TAB.

For Baldur's Gate 1 I found the true ini file in Windows 7 here:

Users > (your user) > AppData > Local > VirtualStore > Program files > GOG.com > Baldurs Gate

It's probably something similar for XP

I added Cheats=1 under Game Options in Baldur.ini and the console now appears.

Okay, so this actually seems like a reasonable solution. I did not install as admin since I assumed that the UAC would automatically install as admin when it placed it in the GOG directory within "Program Files (x86)". I guess I'm going to have to reinstall it and install it as admin.

However, there are 2 AppData locations. One is a hidden folder containing everything up to Temp files and Network documents. The other is a folder that contains one empty directory. Unless specified otherwise, I believe that's how I left it when I first installed W7Pro.

So, it seems it's just very nitpicky with the GOG interface. Thanks for the help on my quarry, and I very much appreciate all the support. I'll report back as to whether it helped, just for others to reference who are having the same problem.

Allephus_Sinfaan, you should probably install somewhere other than under your 'programs (either the regular or the x86) directory. Win7 is a bit finnicky when it comes to that and this will often cause problems such as the one you've experienced. If you install to somewhere else (such as C:|Games), you may have better luck. Hope I'm not too late with this advice.
